COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is the pride of our stable, the nec plus ultra of our brewery. Abbey ale brewed in the classic ’Quadrupel’ style of Belgium’s best Abbey Ales. Dark with a full, ivory-colored head. It has a fruity aroma, full of complex flavours and excels because of its long bittersweet finish with a hoppy bite. Worldwide seen as one of the best beers in the world. It’s a very balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter, and sweet. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren.

33cl bottle at home. pours a dark brown colour with a reddish glow which has a big frothy beige head. Aroma of belgian yeast, dried fruits, caramel, candy sugar, malts, raisins, red fruits, prunes. Taste is fairly sweet, soft bitter with a warming boozy finish. notes of caramel, malts, raisins, yeast, liquorice, prunes, candy sugar, dates. Texture is sticky, full bodied with soft carbonation.

Mahonie rood/bruin van kleur, 2 vinger hoge crèmekleurige schuimkraag die snel zakt naar een laagje. Je ziet mooi wat karamelvlekjes in het schuim.. net even donkerder. Aromas: Gedroogd rood fruit, rozijen, geroosterde mouten, karamel, brooddeeg. Een hint van alcohol bij opwarming net als de Blegische gisting met een vleug banaan wat naar voren komt. Smaak: Donkere mouten, Karamel, fruit (Pruim) ... zoet maar zeker niet te zoet. Gist, banaan en kruidige hops. De alcohol warmte is er maar toch blijft alles mooi in balans, het geeft net die kleine punch. Prima nabitter. Body is vol en mondgevoel is zacht en romig. Wieing CO2 en droog en bitter-zoet in de afdronk. Prachtige Quadrupel om lekker weg te nippen..... Topper!

Mahagony with little beige head. Aroma is plums, chocolate, caramel. Taste is sweetness (comparable with brown sugar) and also carbonation induced sourness. Stays long with a spicy finish. Overall very good.

Bottle from The Bottle Lab, Leek. Pours a deep ruby brown colour with a thin off white head. Aroma of chocolate, raisin, plum, prune, some brown sugar, slight cherry, a little Belgian yeast, subtle marzipan, a hint of caramel and tons of spice. Taste of raisin, plum, prune, some marzipan, caramel, slight brown sugar, a little Belgian yeast, clove, spice and subtle herbal hops. Full bodied, slick texture and moderate carbonation. A long, fruity, spicy bitterness in the finish. A perfectly balanced, complex quad. Tons of fruit and spice and only a hint of alcohol which is surprising. A great quality Belgian beer.

Pours golden amber with a highly aggressive head. The usual caramel, malt and hints of honey. Strong alcohol presence is nice on a cold day and lingers through to a warm glow at the finish.
