Commercial Description:
The absolute top quality in the hierarchy of the St. Bernardus beers. It is also the beer with the highest alcohol content (10.50 %). A dark ivory coloured beer with a high fermentation. The show piece of the brewery. Thanks to its soft and unconditionally genuine aroma, the beer can be smoothly tasted. The Abt has a very fruity flavour.

Deep earthy brown with hints of red. Frothy light tan head with great retention grabs the glass and refuses to let go. Very potent aroma. Alcohol aromas, sweet malts, very dark and brooding. Creamy mouthfeel, truly superb with no hint of carbonation and no visible sediment. Prunes and dark dried pit frutis enter in a wave of heavy malt ale with a slight warming finish.

Great Belgian Dark Ale. Lots of complex dried fruit flavors like raisins and dates. Great balance throughout and just the right amount of alcohol. An elite beer that is available almost everywhere.

Drink six bottles in one everning. If you dont find God youll find Nirvana as a redemption: Sublime malt flavours... like Westy 12 only even better.

St. Bernardus Abt 12 is a cloudy, bubbly, tawny brown ale with many particles in it. It has a huge, fluffy, long-lasting beige head that has particles in it as well. It has an aroma of leather, spice, prune, sherry, hay, barnyard and teriyaki. It has a medium-full, smooth, slick body with a dry, crisp finish. It has a full, complex flavor that’s perfectly balanced. It’s a little sweet, a little sour and a little bitter. The taste has all of the elements of the aroma plus apples, orange peel, coriander, peach and pear. This is spot on-- love it!

Tasted at Tap Room at Sommerset Hills, wedding night. Great beer. Wonderful aroma and complexity. Drank among 10 others that night, needs a re-taste.

Heaven is just Belgium with trappist beers in it. As per usual, this quadrupel does NOT disappoint. Pours that familiar coffee, chocolate, toffee, brown/amber color. Creamy white head with aromas of toffee, oak, licorice, and vanilla. Tongue full of trappist complexities like a vinous interaction of currant and caramel, toast, vanilla, oak, and of course, malt. Finishes warm and lasts a long time. THANK YOU ST BERNARD. December 5th Revision: Attractive hoppiness differs this from the Rochefort Trappistes 10. Nice, but not my favorite in quadrupels.

Dim the lights before you pour this one. The color is the most disgusting thing I have ever seen come out of a beer bottle. It’s cloudy and gray, just a touch of nasty brown. But mostly gray. It has a wonderfully thick head though, so with the lights low, it actually looks pretty nice. Deep brown/black with a thick head. Almost like a stout. The aroma is wonderful. Very buttery, just a little sweet. Currants, I think. Perhaps melon. Just a whisper of something sweeter, like nectarines, perhaps. And yeasty as well, so the effect is like a fresh baked Christmas cake. The flavor is full but not strong. More like toffee than fruity bread. But some of the fruit still comes through in the finish. Very smooth, medium bodied, and just the right amount of fizz. This is a great beer.
