v64 (74), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 2, 2008 Pours very dark red with a thick, full head. Fruity aroma. Tastes of banana and dark fruit, very fruity. The alcohol really comes through on this one, which I think detracts from the taste a little bit. Good beer, very strong. antzman (313), Clarksville, Indiana, USA Jun 1, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with full white head, with fizzy lacing on the glass. The aroma is of dark fruits, caramel, bananas, vanilla, and spices. The flavor is full of dark fruits, roasted malts, figs, spice, and an alcoholic touch at the finish. Very well made beer. dmac (1417), Toms River, New Jersey, USA May 31, 2008 11.2 oz bottle from a gift pack which included the official St. Bernardus chalice. Pours a solid mahoganey with a large fluffy off white head that leaves some impressive lace in it’s wake. Complex aroma with lots of hidden nuiances, banana, dark fruit, dough, alcohol, vanilla, brown sugar, caramel, toffee, some winey notes as well. Medium to slightly full bodied with average carbonation that finishes with a good amount of alcohol warming on the back the throat and only the slightest hint of dryness in your mouth. Flavor of rotting banana, vanilla extract, some dark fruit, red wine and sherry from the alcohol. As nice and enjoyable as this was the alcohol was still very up front and needs some time to mellow. Oh well I guess I should grab a case of the 750 ml bottles and drink one every six to twelve months till I find out what the perfect age for this quad is. cmillward (418), Orlando, Florida, USA May 30, 2008 On tap @ stardust. Brown with a tan head, leaves nice lacing on the sides of the glass. Very complex. On the nose caramel, bananas, doughy yeasts, dark fruits, a hint of alcohol, vanilla, spiciness. Huge toasted malts, sweet, doughy, touch of alcohol mid-palate, dark fruits, dried figs, touch of spiciness. As it warms, it stays well-bodied. Smooth and drying at the end. Even at almost room-temperature alcohol doesn’t dominate or become overbearing. Greatly enjoyed this. mdipaolo (1), Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, USA does not count May 29, 2008 Best beer in the world! Full flavor which gets more pronounced as the beer warms up. BeerGestapo (725), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA May 29, 2008 Updated: Jun 11, 2008(Belgium) This was the winner at the last Knights of the Devonshire tasting. The color was a warm brown with a med tan head. The aroma was wonderful, spices, caramel, dark fruit, with a fruity / vanilla / zesty taste. Great carbonation here !!! This brew was a delight, Do yourself a favor and get some . donteatpoop (124), Youngstown, Ohio, USA May 28, 2008 Poured a nice nut brown with little to no head.
Smelled of caramel malts, fruits, and nuts.
Tasted of caramel malts, nuts, fig, and some underlying fruityness. Really a marvelous taste.
It was a little dry in the mouth, but otherwise splendid; great carbonation balance and everything.
Very drinkable, I want to have many many more of these.
