MatSciGuy (627), Rosemount, Minnesota, USA May 5, 2008 [bottle] Pours a deep, caramelly brown with a huge, rocky off white head. Aroma is sweet with candi sugar, dark fruits, bready yeast. Flavor is sweet and spicy, there is some alcohol, raisins, and spices. Mouthfeel is rich, but highly carbonated. pixeljunkie (3), Dallas, Texas, USA does not count May 5, 2008 Smells of spice and brown sugar. Tastes almost identical to it’s aroma. Slightly alcoholic on the backend, warming. Subtle tastes of dried fruits and spices. Superb. Maverick34 (686), New York, USA May 4, 2008 Updated: May 14, 2008Bottled. Pours dark, aroma is caramel, raisins, syrupy taste. Really quite delicious. Braudog (3732), Dayton, Ohio, USA May 4, 2008 Draft at Bier Garden, Portsmouth. Much darker than I’d expected, deep, dark brown, with a thin top. Thick and syrupy with a flavor profile that is so syrupy it almost makes me believe there’s maple in it. Chewy malt, almost raisiny. Quite nice, as to be expected for a 100-score beer. (#3451, 5/4/2008) MtStateBeer (74), Hurricane, West Virginia, USA May 4, 2008 330ml bottle. Pours a nice deep brown color with a large frothy, light brown head which sticks around for a good while. Aroma is roasted malt, maybe a little bit of coffee/chocolate, and some fruits (pear?). Flavor is better than the smell fruity and sweet. It packs a decent punch, the finish reminds you that it’s a relatively high alcohol content. MrChopin (620), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 3, 2008 Nose has malt roasts but stronger in sweet fruits and caramel. Dark reddish brown beer, head gone rather quickly. Sweet flavor with fruits and malt. The alcohol is detectable in flavor and palate, which it boosts. Maybe a little too sweet to justify its glowing praise. kkearn (993), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 27, 2008 750mL bottle. Poured reddish brown with a big frothy tan head. Aroma is fairly sweet, with overripe banana, yeast, caramel, toffee and salt. Huge malty backbone with lots of dark fruit. Flavor is nicely complimented by yeast, liquorice, cantaloupe, and warming alcohol. Big malty finish with warming alcohol. Alcohol overwhelms the palate a bit. KnN (712), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Apr 26, 2008 An excellent example of malts in action. This beer pours a nice brown color with a massive tan head. Smell is very much malt and fruit. Reminded me of dark fruits, plums, raisins. Smelled great. A lot going on in the flavor too. Some great malt sweetness and the fruit is still present. Nice and smooth, very easy to drink. Great beer.
