Lothore (276), California, USA Apr 26, 2008 A- Huge chunky oatmeal colored head that leaves a massive amount of lacing. Very dark brown in color, hard to see through.
S- Sweet apricot aromas folowed by orange mixed with a slight coffee and alcohol tinge in the nose.
T- Taste is very complex; coffee, sweet dark fruits, roasted malts.
M- Mouthfeel is fairly viscous but not very carbonated.
D- This is definitely a sipper. I can’t see anyone saying it’s very drinkable but the flavor makes me want to come back to it every once in a while. obguthr (986), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Apr 26, 2008 Updated: May 23, 2009Outstanding bouquet of pear, baby food, banana, and oats. Pours cloudy brown with a thick tan lasting head, good lacing. Tastes of candy, chocolate malt, and a little bit of raisins, dirty. Moss finish. Alcohol content deceptive. Great balance and complexity, sweet, tart, and earthy. Truly outstanding. Hard to find any faults with this one. Perhaps too sweet for some. Pwn3d (1036), Manhattan, New York, USA Apr 23, 2008 750ml bottle, enjoyed lightly chilled. beauty of a pour - Dark brown, off white frothy head, plenty of particles getting knocked around by the lively carbonation. Strong spices, raisins, fruits, and alcohol apparent in the nose. Taste is raisins, sweet malts, grapes, brown sugar. Palate is probably the best aspect, ripe carbonation that turns to fluff in the mouth. Ub3r. Nice alc % trevor211 (499), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 21, 2008 Updated: Feb 25, 2009Pours a deep ruby brown - nearly black - with a huge tan head. Aroma of sweet malts, raisins, apples, brown sugar and cloves. Flavor starts out big and just keeps getting bigger, sticking around for a good long while. Incredibly complex flavor - so much so that it’s tough to pick any single notes out of it. Sweet malts and raisins, bubble gum, cloves, molasses and a touch of black licorice at the very end. Mouthfeel is wonderful - it manages to leave the flavor in your mouth for a while without making it seem like it left a syrupy coat. This is an utterly fantastic beer - one I fall in love with more every time I try it. Tweety (336), Vancouver, Washington, USA Apr 21, 2008 1/3 l. bottle. Dark brown pour with a nearly white foamy head. The aroma is brown sugar, raisins - very sweet - with a touch of alcohol. The taste is more of the same, caramel and raisins and the alcohol supplies a good amount of warmth, just below the surface. Rather enjoyable. beergeezer (3), Miami, Florida, USA does not count Apr 20, 2008 Nice frothy head and rich color. A little alcohol in the nose, yet pleasant aroma.
A little caramel on the palate.
One of the best brews available locally. Great choice for good friends or special occasions. keepersj12 (774), Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA Apr 20, 2008 Wonderful aroma. It pours a dark murky brown with a lot of particles. Big head if you’re not careful. Taste is very good with a nice alcohol burn. Made for sipping. EHopper (274), Minnesota, USA Apr 19, 2008 Very, very dark carmel color if viewed in good light. Beautiful creamy tan head. Aroma of homemade sweet maple wheat bread. Without eyes, it might be hard to tell it is a beer. Flavor is well matched. Smooth and soft, dark fruit and grain, well balanced with little alcohol flavor or aftertaste. It also has a curiously bright highlight that makes this a very interesting and complex beer. One to keep on hand for special occasions.
