We believe this particular one was bottled in 2006. Freshness date 140710. Incredibly enough, even though this bottle is 4 years old, it poured a lovely dark brown with a thick, three finger creamy head. Yeast sprinkles on the head looked almost like cinnamon. The only affect that age seemed to have on this, is in the aroma. Very slight, almost imperceptible scent of dark, sticky fruits. The taste was phenomenal! Heavy malts, dark, sticky fruits (almost like fig newton filling) with subtle spices and a thin, refreshing mouthfeel. Age has only improved this wonderful beer!

Copper brown pour, with thick, long lasting head. Lively carbonation from bottle conditioning . Sweet toasty oats on the aroma, with Belgian yeast coming through as it warms. The flavour is full of hazelnuts , almonds, and a balanced hop finish. Totally luxurious beer.

330cl bottled. I have only had Westvleteren12 for once so far. As another quadrupel, this beer is much easier to get and not bad though.

Dark brown, tall off-white head. Aroma of yeast and some fruit. Flavor is complex, sweet, with some chocolate. High carbonation with medium body. Very good. Why did I pass this up for so long?

On first taste, dark and chocolaty. Comforting. But palate has lighter notes: citrus and almonds. The bubbliness lightens the beer significantly. Pure delight.

4.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 20/20
Appearance: Dark red-ruby almost brown with a light tan head
Aroma: Dark fruits, plums, figs, sweet malts, along with the classic yeast smell for Belgian quads.
Taste: The dark fruits hit your tongue with a slight banana flavor likely from the yeast, spices are there as well. Decently sweet without being overwhelming and a ever so slight bitterness.
Palate: Medium-bodied that doesn’t seem to completely coat the mouth like some other quads I’ve had. There’s a sweetness that is there that doesn’t stick to the inside of the mouth like syrup, it’s almost a clean quad if there is such a thing.
Overall: Delicious quad! Perhaps my favorite quad ever.

On draught, in bottles, and from a growler. Excellent beer, not quite as good as Westvleteren, but close.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at home, yeast in bottle consumed as part of drink. Dark brown liquid with overwhelming carbonation and a thin but persistent head. Aromas reminding me of fresh air and spring floral notes. Tastes sweet and slightly hiding the regular dark beer notes I expected from the memory of earlier bottles. Very enjoyable. I must find one which tastes like this except for the suspended yeast. Maybe the next Abt 12 bottle?

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Clear dark brown pour, decent tan head. Nose is cherries, figs and yeast. More bitter than sweet. Middle is currants, more cherries, dark roasted grain, and a hint of alcohol. Finish is coco and slightly bitter hops. very deft on it’s feet @ 10%. Complex, inviting, and soothing. Went great with a sirloin, mashers, and peas!
