4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
330ml bottle, poured into Leffe chalice. Dark auburn colour, 90% opaque, one finger tanned head, decent retention, fair amount of lacing. Aroma was grape and booze, slightly musty. Tasted rasin, plum, fig, fudge, molasses and brown sugar. Quite boozy compared with Rochefort 10. Finish was slightly bitter and biscuity. Well carbonated, light body, smooth but had a slightly coarse edge from the booze. It seemed to mellow as it warmed, got less boozy and the carbonation dropped off slightly. A very good beer rather than a great beer, places below Rochefort 10.

Bottle at Ølbutikken.
Hazy dark brwon. Richa aroma, some sourness to set the saliva running. Fruity. Full flavour, very belgian. Bitter hops, candy sugar. Superb, but the competition is tough today.

UPDATED: MAR 12, 2014 Bottle. Pours murky brown with a large tan head. Aroma: alcohol, raisin, dried fruit, bit of wood. Very smooth mouthfeel, initial carbonation smoothes quite fast. Lots of dark fruit in the taste, raisins, bit of honey. A balanced beer with quite a lot going on. Lovely brew!

Very nice flavor without being overwhelmingly sweet. Has some nice dark fruit, caramel, banana, cloves, and fresh cracked pepper flavors.

First saw this bier at a restaurant in Tongeren last year and had to try it. Had to try one more. And one more after that. I’m not into the play-by-play aroma, malt, hops, head, taste, etc. trying to analyze or over analyze every little sip. I just like a good bier. This is one and has become my favorite Belgian.

330cl bottle in a Trappist goblet. No overwhelming aroma, slight hint of raisin. Fantastic deep fruity taste with raisins again coming through. Slight alcohol flavor in the finish. Can only be described as neither sweet nor bitter with a fantastic warming taste and feeling. Certainly lives up to its reputation

33cl bottle sampled in a trappist glass. Dark brown brew with low retention head that leaves no lacing. Aroma of caramel, dough, dried fruit, hit of licorice and lots of alcohol. Tastes of the same, but without the licorice. Mouthfeel is warm of alcohol, full and slightly creamy. Atertaste is lasting of dough and dried fruits. Great brew!!

Those that drank recently, fragrance feel a little unsatisfactory. It is destroying the balance a little taste only noticeable feeling of alcohol, but it ends up just just buy Given the difference in the distribution of beer and examples of this beer. But be a sense of discomfort people know the taste of the star performer ...
