COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The absolute top quality in the hierarchy of the St. Bernardus beers. It is also the beer with the highest alcohol content (10.50 %). A dark ivory coloured beer with a high fermentation. The show piece of the brewery. Thanks to its soft and unconditionally genuine aroma, the beer can be smoothly tasted. The Abt has a very fruity flavour.

UPDATED: NOV 7, 2004 bottle. opened in honor of RED SOX game 2 win in the World Series... color of hot fudge with a fluffy tan head... aroma of syrupy ripe fruits, port, toffee.... flavor of rum cake heavy on the liquor, spice notes... bitter chocolate... smooth, slick, and oh so warming me up on this Boston night.

Pours deep copper with thick pillowy off-white head. Smells of sticky-sweet pale malts with hints of mustiness and green apple. Flavor is sweet like cotton candy and apple pie and fades off to a raisiny aftertaste. Thick, creamy, and full, this is a delightfully tasty brew! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This is a good beer. Not as good as Rochefort 10 or Westvleteren 12, but still quite good.

Pours dark brown colour with fluffy tan head. Aroma is yeast, dark fruits, caramel. Taste is the same, with also some bread in it and a malty quality to it. medium to full body. Nice alcohol warmth, alcohol is not overpowering. Nice lingering aftertaste. Not as complex as the Westvleteren 12 to which it is often compared to, but nevertheless an excellent quad!

On draft at the Hungry Monk in a chalice. Pours a crystal-clear dark amber. Heavy raisin, currants, brown sugar, and banana-like esters on the nose. Complex taste of caramel, oak, raisin, a bit of green apple, some spiced rum, and cinnamon. The booziness and spices really pop as the beer approaches room temperature. Smooth body with a bit woody texture. One of my favorite quads.

Pours a rich dark reddish brown with a very pale brown bubbly head. Very complex nose, lots of candy sugar and dark fruit up front, very sweet, a yeasty breadiness, ripe bananas, slightly boozy with a hint of pine resin. Wow, rich caramel and plum taste up front, quite sweet, ripe fruits, the alcohol is hidden well, and very subtle hop bite at the end. Medium bodied, high carbonation. Perfect balance and really delicious.
