The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is the pride of our stable, the nec plus ultra of our brewery. Abbey ale brewed in the classic íQuadrupelí style of Belgiumís best Abbey Ales. Dark with a full, ivory-colored head. It has a fruity aroma, full of complex flavours and excels because of its long bittersweet finish with a hoppy bite. Worldwide seen as one of the best beers in the world. Itís a very balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter, and sweet. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren.

Originally reviewed: 11/27/12. Spent the holiday weekend down in Greenville, SC with some friends and had to go the Trappe Door for my Belgian fix. I really wanted a Quad, but alas, there were none on draft. This is one Iíve wanted to try for quite some time, but keep passing up. Not this time. This was the small 11.2oz bottle, poured into a St. Bernardus chalice. Pours a dark ruby-mahogany garnet with a small sheet of lace on top. Rich aroma of plum, grape, stawberry, alcohol, all washed in a pleasant floral scent. Carbonated well. Good heft to this makes this a great sipper. Holds up the richness of this beer quite well. The flavors mirror the aroma making this one a nice decadent treat. Fig, raisin, plum, molasses, syrup, and just a touch of booze on the finish. Thereís a lot going on here, and Iím not sure this bottle was big enough for me to capture all of the nuances. I guess thatís what the 750s are for. This was a treat, and one I would gladly have again.

Dark ruby, hazy, beautiful thick head. Aroma of dried fruit, port wine, spice, syrup. Medium to full body. Oily. Average carbonation. In flavour notes of dried fruit, port wine, grassy hops. Quaffable, very warming, still no boozy feel. Excellent balance. Delicate bitterness. Very nice

Real dense and toasty with some nutty character. Complex fruits in aroma and taste. For how thick it was the carbonation and palate were great, well balanced.

Small bottle. Medium bodied, creamy. Huge head. Full of strong aromas - plum, raisins, caramel, bread, yeast. Sweet, with gentle bitter finish. Average carbonation which softly bites tongue. Perfect in every sip. One of the most memorable beers to which, due to availability, I like do come back.

dense quad: sticky cane sugar, toasty roasted malts, pungent hops, black truffle, leather, clove, black pepper, stewed beef, vinous heat. no component outweighing the other. like a tight young claret, with everything in the right place, i think my bottle would have loosened with time. one to stick away.

Bottle. Pours dark ruby, low head, a bit of lacing. Lots of ripe sweet fruits in the aroma, port wine taste, but not as heavy. Dark and complex, sweet and still refreshing. What an excellent beer!

750ml bottle...purple brown pour with a head that settles to a Petri dish colony. The nose is Port wine and the taste is a very complex mix of ripe dark fruit, weathered leather, tobacco, and primo weed. Awesome.

Birra favolosa, Ť corposa, ha un bel colore scuro, lascia un retrogusto amarognolo ma non forte
