The absolute top quality in the hierarchy of the St. Bernardus beers. It is also the beer with the highest alcohol content (10.50 %). A dark ivory coloured beer with a high fermentation. The show piece of the brewery. Thanks to its soft and unconditionally genuine aroma, the beer can be smoothly tasted. The Abt has a very fruity flavour.

Poured into a Chimay chalice. Dark brown with a thick inch of foam that seems to last forever. When I first put the glass to my nose all I could smell was green apple, wonderful. The taste is just amazing. Carmel, dark fruit some green apple. Had to describe. Mouthfeel is medium with lots of carbonation. Halfway through the glass and thereís still a quarter inch of foam. This may be one of the best beers Iíve ever had. Simply amazing.

Scent of caramel, yeast, dates, and malt. Opaque, near black colour. Flavours f chocolate, dried fruit, coffee, burnt sugar, and coffee. Sweetness with light bitterness and mild carbonation. Quite delicious.

Heerlijk trappistenbier zoals hij hoort: een echt donker speciaalbier met een toets van karamel (in tegenstelling tot vele anderen waarbij het zoet overheerst). Robuust en vol, maar toch relatief licht op de maag. Aanrader!

Pours dark brown, with off-white head. Malt, yeast and slightly roasted. Very malty, caramel and chocolate flavour. With a nice bitter finish.

Blind quad test against Pannepot, Pannepeut, Rochefort 10, Westvleteren 12, St Amatus 12, The Sixth Glass, & Chimay Blue My prefered order was; Pannepot, Rochefort 10, St Amatus 12, Westvleteren 12, St Bernardus, Pannepeut, Sixth Glass and last Chimay. - Aroma on this one is much more yeast then the others, also a bit more spicy, some licorice and a lot of raisin. Taste is not the general dark fruits, this is pure raisin, quite spicy, a lingering mouthfeel and drier compared to the others, yeast has a bigger role in general on this one, quite rough, but i can get how people like it, itís quite different than the others.

Bottle from Piccolo Parco in Taipei. Bready spicy yeasty aroma. Big bubbly taste. Spicy with very malty bready finish. Doesn't taste like 10%. Not bad for this style.

Had this many times but finally sat down to rate this at Piccolo Parco bar in Taipei. Bottle. Aroma of overripe fruit, plum, smoke, leather and a little liquorice - somehow with so much in the nose it still smells sweet and relatively light. Taste is spicy fruit with a long malty finish. Body is dry with loads of fluffy carbonation which, together with the spiciness and high alcohol, gives this a nice kick. A complex Trappist ale that's dry, fizzy, fruity and spicy.

4 year old bottle, marked 01.07.15. Plums, dark fruit and raisins. Complexity is out of control. Time has smoothed out any rough edges. One of the best beers you will ever have. Damn monks are solid.

Malty, fig/plum nose. Hazy copper with perfect persistent head and Belgian lacing. Malty but not cloyingly sweet. Rich toffee, malt and dark fruit flavors completely mask any alcohol heat. Yeast flavors subtle but in perfect compliment. Low but perfect carbonation and just enough hop bitterness for a perfect balance. Aroma frutado com notas de cravo. AparÍncia marrom caramelado. Sabor com algo de banana e especiarias. No paladar, um leve amargor. No geral, uma bela trapista, muito parecida com quadrupel. Deliciosa.
