The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is the pride of our stable, the nec plus ultra of our brewery. Abbey ale brewed in the classic ’Quadrupel’ style of Belgium’s best Abbey Ales. Dark with a full, ivory-colored head. It has a fruity aroma, full of complex flavours and excels because of its long bittersweet finish with a hoppy bite. Worldwide seen as one of the best beers in the world. It’s a very balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter, and sweet. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren.

Poured into a Chimay chalice. Dark brown with a thick inch of foam that seems to last forever. When I first put the glass to my nose all I could smell was green apple, wonderful. The taste is just amazing. Carmel, dark fruit some green apple. Had to describe. Mouthfeel is medium with lots of carbonation. Halfway through the glass and there’s still a quarter inch of foam. This may be one of the best beers I’ve ever had. Simply amazing.

Has aroma of dark malts and brown sugar. The color is dark copper, it’s hazy, with small head and awesome lacing. In taste it’s also quite sweet with malty notes. It’s very smooth because of low carbonation. The alcohol is covered quite well, but it’s warm the throat so quickly. After few seconds it’s starting to pinch the esophagus and warm you quite nicely. Then you can feel the alcohol much clearer. In the end in the aftertaste and aroma the notes of sweet fruits (dehydrated plums, raisins) appear. The bouquet is so rich.

Pours a dark mahogany with an off white head. The nose is hint of raisins and malt. The palate is full bodied with malt sweetness, slight caramel, and a slight bitter hop aftertaste.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The aroma is malt, caramel a touch of raisin/fig and a slight floral. Pours a cloudy copper/amber brown with mostly diminishing big light brown head and excellent lacing. The taste is a light bitter. The body is medium, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively and the finish light bitter. Overall not as good as I remember but I have another aging and we’ll see how that goes.

Nice caramel aroma, spicey, a bit hoppy, alcohol at the ending, medium carbonisation, sweet beer with medium notes of bitterness. Better when cooled. Really great brew!

Butelka 0,33l Nr . warki A 21 03 18. Barwa rubinowo herbaciana.
