COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is the pride of our stable, the nec plus ultra of our brewery. Abbey ale brewed in the classic ’Quadrupel’ style of Belgium’s best Abbey Ales. Dark with a full, ivory-colored head. It has a fruity aroma, full of complex flavours and excels because of its long bittersweet finish with a hoppy bite. Worldwide seen as one of the best beers in the world. It’s a very balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter, and sweet. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren.

Poured into a Chimay chalice. Dark brown with a thick inch of foam that seems to last forever. When I first put the glass to my nose all I could smell was green apple, wonderful. The taste is just amazing. Carmel, dark fruit some green apple. Had to describe. Mouthfeel is medium with lots of carbonation. Halfway through the glass and there’s still a quarter inch of foam. This may be one of the best beers I’ve ever had. Simply amazing.

Bottle. A Belgian told me once this is as good as Westy 12, and indeed is pretty much the same recipe. Given I can buy 5 of these for 1 Westy it’s no competition. Smooth ripe dark fruits, malts, esters, velvet body. Touch foamy but a little thing only. A good winter’s day comfort.

Pours a reddish copper in color with a full, bubbly looking darker beige head. The aroma is potent and more tart, with cherry, apple, raisin, caramel, Belgian yeast, and some spices. The taste retains the detected tartness while adding a more mild bitterness to it. Cherry, plum, and spices are found initially. This is followed up with some caramel, figs, and earthy malts. Belgian yeast remains throughout. The aftertaste is cherry and lesser caramel, with a slight sourness lingering for awhile. Medium to full in body, a bubbly, sticky texture, and lots of fizzy carbonation in here. I would never have guessed that this one is 10% without the label telling me. It is very drinkable, as the lingering sourness encourages more drinking. Complex and delicious, everyone needs to try this.

St. Bernardus abt 12 uitgeschonken in St. Bernardus bier bokaal.

My my what a treat. Pours a dark opaque ruby with a large off-white foamy head, leaving behind a crazy amount of lacing. Aromas of Belgian yeast, cherry, plum, slight booze, caramel, and earth tease the nose, a sure sign of what is to come. Has a very full body with a fizzy carbonation along with a fairly oily/chewy mouthfeel. Almost a meal in a glass I reckon. This beer hides it’s booze very well, leaving just enough boozy flavor to make it nice and warming. Starts off with a light sweetness on the tongue followed by a dry cherry-like bitterness. Easily my favorite of the St. Bernardus line yet.

My kind of Saint, bringing a huge heavy hitting harbinger of happiness ahead! Little beastly yeasties floating within the ebb and flow of fine full flavours, this dark chesnut brown nectar holds a potent ivory skullcap. Plums, raisins, burnt toffee, leather, oak, basement, earth and red wine comprise the aroma and taste of this rich, sweet but well balanced dry finishing thoroughbred king. Very mildly tart notes of cherries and currants further pique my already appreciative interests. A silky smooth yet effervescent feel round this champion brew out to near perfection.

Butelka, warka do 21.10.2018. Ciemno brunatne, lekko przeswitujace z rubinowymi przeblyskami piwo. Piana bardzo bujna i ladna, niemniej opada w nienajpiekniejszy sposob (zostaja grube, nierowne pecherzyki) i tylko lekko koronkuje na szkle. Aromat wyjatkowo intensywny, glownie ciemne owoce (sliwki, figi, winogrona, wisnie, banan) rowniez suszone (czytaj: rodzynki) a moze kandyzowane, gdyz czuc tez cukier trzcinowy. Do tego nieco slabszych, slodowych aromatow (tostowo-chlebowych). Smak dosc analogiczny, dominuja nuty slodkie, owocowe. Goryczka niewysoka. Raczej wytrawne. stosunkowo wysokie nasycenie. Klasa.
