COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is the pride of our stable, the nec plus ultra of our brewery. Abbey ale brewed in the classic ’Quadrupel’ style of Belgium’s best Abbey Ales. Dark with a full, ivory-colored head. It has a fruity aroma, full of complex flavours and excels because of its long bittersweet finish with a hoppy bite. Worldwide seen as one of the best beers in the world. It’s a very balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter, and sweet. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren.

Really really nice beer. Well balanced with the ETOH being well hidden. Very nice.

Cloudy brown pour with nice mahogany highlights and a pretty good carbonation content. The substancial head is fluffy and creamy showing a light tan. It also develops great lacing and retains very well. The nose is complex, sweet and earthy, fruity and lightly smoky. I got caramel and dark fruits like figs paired with good yeasts. The taste is bold but subtle all at once. The earthy hops come along first closely followed by the yeasts and a very nice and balanced lightly bitter sharpness slowly invades the palate from the back of the tongue. The sweetness is again just right and gives a nice foundation to all of the other elements. The mouthfeel is olily, sharp and dense which from my stand point is right on target. This Abt is full-bodied, complex and overall a very enjoyable product. Cellar this one for a couple of years to let develop complexity and you’ll be glad you did.

Packaged in an impressive corked bottle. Deep brown with a thick ivory head. Plenty of lacing. Very malty with a slight hop bite on the finish. Very balanced. Fruity with hints of plum and raisin. Quite a kick at 10% ABV the alcohol is not overly present in the aroma or taste.

Got some aniseed. Elegant beer after the first sip a tiny hint of spirit. Will definitely rate this again.

Bière au goût très prononcé et qui évolue. Arrière goût qui dure. Bière très agréable, mais assez lourde à boire.

0,33 bottle purchased and consumed in Kosovo in its original glass. Pours a reddish dark brown (chestnut skin) color, some sediments in the end (I have not poured it all) and a nice dark ivory foamy head. Nose: round and pleasant attack of dry fruit (prunes dominate the nose), fresh juicy black figs, fruity overall feel, hidden but perceivable hoppy bitterness. Mouth: what a joy to drink it during a winter evening! Juicy and chewy maltiness, dry fruits, good carbonation, some after taste pleasant alcohol notes, soul warming feel. Great beer.

Excellent quad, that is very bold in flavors and appearance without too much of an alcohol taste. I prefer however rochefort 10, which gives me a mire heavenly after feel

I had been dying ti try this beer and I finally got my hands on a bottle. It was poured into a Trappist glass and had a thick creamy head that dissipated slowly but left lots of lacing. The smell was malty but not overpowering. The aromas kind of disappears. I could hardly smell the alcohol though. The taste was malts and complex fruits and somewhat sweet like caramel or brown sugar but not too sweet either. Really nice to drink this beer as it warms. There’s a definite bitterness in the back, like a mild aftertaste but it only makes me want to drink it more. Hard to describe but reminds me of a Tannin taste from a wine, but not bad.. This quad feels smooth and slightly bubbly. It’s actually really nice to drink.
