COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The absolute top quality in the hierarchy of the St. Bernardus beers. It is also the beer with the highest alcohol content (10.50 %). A dark ivory coloured beer with a high fermentation. The show piece of the brewery. Thanks to its soft and unconditionally genuine aroma, the beer can be smoothly tasted. The Abt has a very fruity flavour.

Draught. Pours dark brown/black with a lasting white head. Aroma of dark fruits, malt, yeast, and a bit of alcohol. Taste is very well balanced, with similar components. Most notably, there is an underlying but not overpowering tart fruit flavor.

UPDATED: FEB 6, 2006 A very dark red almost brown beer with a good head. The aroma is of over ripe fruit and malt sweetness. The flavor is very powerful of a great malt blend with strong notes of caramel as well as hints of the alcohol, which also tickles the tongue. It ends with a good bitterness - all in all a really great flavor and therefore a really good beer.

33c cL bottle. Pours deep brown with small sediments floating around. Off-white creamy head. Aroma of dried fruit, slight caramel and roasted notes. Flavour is chocolate, dried fruit, caramel sweet and slight bitter. Doesn’t hit the same smooth balance as Westie 12. Nice but not perfect.

Bottled. Dark brown colour, big brown creamy head. Plum, alcohol, yeast and berries in aroma. Flavour is strong cream and toffee with a sting of alcohol. Also malts and yeast make their way through. Lovely product with a nice long roasted aftertaste in the throat as well as creamy toffee in the mouth. I bet this beerages very well!

UPDATED: JUN 12, 2003 Dark reddish brown. Fruity aroma, with hints of banana and apples. Very sweet, raisin flavour. Some toffee. When it warms up it reveals a a deep, complex malt character with notes of salty licorice, and a finish which is reminiscent of a madeira wood single malt whiskey.

Cloudy brown colour with an off-white head. Sweet aroma dominated by yeast and dried fruit with notes of alcohol and spices. Sweet aroma of yeast, chocolate, liquorice and dried fruit. Nice, but not the best quadrupel I’ve had.

2012-05-15, bottle at La Cervezateca, Torremolinos, bb 25.10.16, 7-5-8-3-15=38
Malt and caramel aroma, sweet but with austerity. Full bodied, with good malt and caramel flavor, but also a metallic character. Too young.

2012-04-01, draught at Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen, 7-5-8-3-15=38
Cloudy dark amber color, with generous creamy head. Moderate malt aroma, with very light dark fruit, honey and smoke. Full bodied, with good malt flavor, caramel, hint of dark fruits and chocolate, ordinary bitterness; there is a warm alcohol feeling; solid, but overall not exciting, and weak in the final. Good, but seemingly young.

2003-07-08, bottle, 7-5-9-4-15
Deep amber color; huge rocky head. Strange spicy aroma, alcohol, light liquorice, carbonation. Very good malty body, a pleasant sweet liquorice. Quite long final, but not enough bitter/aromatic.
