Commercial Description:
The absolute top quality in the hierarchy of the St. Bernardus beers. It is also the beer with the highest alcohol content (10.50 %). A dark ivory coloured beer with a high fermentation. The show piece of the brewery. Thanks to its soft and unconditionally genuine aroma, the beer can be smoothly tasted. The Abt has a very fruity flavour.

Very complex strong Belgian. Head stays with the drink the entire time just about. The alcohol taste was a little too up front and not very well hidden. At times was almost coming across as having wine like characteristics. I actually like some of the other St. Bernardus beers better, but this is still a solid beer.

Dayton, OH AleFest:This beer had a large sized ivory head with a cloudy uncarbonated body. The hue was brown and the nose was malty and of fruit. The flavor of this beer was bitter and malty. The mouthfeel was smooth and light bodied. This beer left good lacing on the sides of my glass.

Not as potent as I would have hoped. Pours a dark brown with a light tan to off-white head. The head quickly disappeared. The aroma was bittersweet but seemed somewhat dry. The first taste revealed that it was not as sweet as I was expecting nor was the taste very high in alcohol either. Finished a little dry but had a tang or zip in the end. The alcohol was noticeable but not overwhelming considering it was 10%. Recommended

Bold black beer apperance, with little forth to form the head. Platable and plesant beer with an overridding black currant quality.

Pours with a coffee colored milkshake-like head that does not dissipate quickly. Pleasant cola-like color. The aroma is very subtle but I pick up faint notes of cherry and nuts. Excellent thick creamy mouthfeel - luxuriant in nature. Flavor has some nutty notes in it, with elements of raisins, toffee and sweet chocolate. The alcohol is hidden oh so very well but it catches up with you near the end of the 750 ml bottle. Good to see that George Kennedy has found work as the model for the monk on the bottle - I have not seen him too much since the Naked Gun and before that the Airport Movies!

Bottled(330ml). –Dark reddish brown coloured, medium beige head. Malty and fruity (raisins, plums, cherries, etc.) aroma with notes of caramel and yeast. Few alcohol hints with a touch of licorice in the finish. Not my favorite.

Started well and got steadily better. Appearance was unassuming: dark brown and cloudy with a greyish head. Aroma was unexpectedly sweet with a hint of apple. Then came the taste: sweet, plummy, sour, alcoholic, like Christmas pudding, with a lovely little bitter close at the end of each sip. Outstanding.
