COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is the pride of our stable, the nec plus ultra of our brewery. Abbey ale brewed in the classic ’Quadrupel’ style of Belgium’s best Abbey Ales. Dark with a full, ivory-colored head. It has a fruity aroma, full of complex flavours and excels because of its long bittersweet finish with a hoppy bite. Worldwide seen as one of the best beers in the world. It’s a very balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter, and sweet. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren.

A: The pour is a cloudy dark mahogany with decent head. . S: Good but not great aromas of sweet malt, caramel, and yeast. There might be a touch of alcohol as well. T: A slight warming feel of alcohol goes well with some dark fruits and sweet, caramel malt. The yeast is not as quite prominent as many other Belgian beers. M: Even with the high level of carbonation, the body is still quite full. D: The alcohol makes itself known more in terms of the subtle warmth it provides the beer but isn't aggressive by any means. The flavors are sweet but balanced and are helped out by the carbonation. Tastes like a Westvleteren 12 lite. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Brown with a small head. Nutty flavour and very smooth. Amazingly easy to drink considering its strength. Cant understand why I haven’t tried this one before.

Bought a 75cl bottle from an internet site. Gives a nice beige head when poured. Co2 is well balanced. Smell is a bit of alcohol and banana. Taste is malty and dried fruit. Mostly dried plum. Nicely hopped, and the alcohol is hidden. Something all beer lovers should taste once. Bought this one because West Vletteren is hard to get and expensive. They say it is a good clone..

Prima nabitter. Body is vol en mondgevoel is zacht en romig. Topper!

Rich, deep mahogany with a thin tan head. A rich concoction. Complex and balanced. Loaded with character and it all comes together. Drinking it where it’s born makes it all the better.

Mahagony with little beige head. Aroma is plums, chocolate, caramel. Taste is sweetness (comparable with brown sugar) and also carbonation induced sourness. Stays long with a spicy finish. Overall very good.
