dmac (916), Toms River, New Jersey, USA May 31, 2008 11.2 oz bottle from a gift pack which included the official St. Bernardus chalice. Pours a solid mahoganey with a large fluffy off white head that leaves some impressive lace in it’s wake. Complex aroma with lots of hidden nuiances, banana, dark fruit, dough, alcohol, vanilla, brown sugar, caramel, toffee, some winey notes as well. Medium to slightly full bodied with average carbonation that finishes with a good amount of alcohol warming on the back the throat and only the slightest hint of dryness in your mouth. Flavor of rotting banana, vanilla extract, some dark fruit, red wine and sherry from the alcohol. As nice and enjoyable as this was the alcohol was still very up front and needs some time to mellow. Oh well I guess I should grab a case of the 750 ml bottles and drink one every six to twelve months till I find out what the perfect age for this quad is.
Soonah (532), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Dec 1, 2008 Dark chestnut and ruby pour. The head was almost tan. It was thick and rocky. Giving way slowly and producing nice lacing. The aroma was malt, toffee, nut raisin, chocolate, yeast and earth. The flavor was tart raisin, chocolate, malt and toffee. Some yeast too. Pleasant warming alcohol. Terrific mouthfeel. World Class. Benjiehorn (10), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 30, 2008 This is the beer that got me into beer geekdom! A fantastic malty beer with lots of dark fruit flavors and aromas present. Poured this one into my Chimay goblet, and let it oxidize slightly to give off more complexity to the layers of flavor. Some nice ripe cherries, currants, plum, and a bit of spice hidden in there. At 10% this 750ml bottle is an excellent treat to be savored! bity (7), Pueblo, Colorado, USA does not count Nov 29, 2008 Incredible beer! Super dark, opaque with white foam, average carbonation, full body. Flavors of rasin, wood, cherry with notiable alcohol. Super complex taste. A treat to have! terrybail (185), , Ontario, Canada Nov 29, 2008 330ml Glass at Marienbad /Chaucers that my lovely wife took me to for a beer or two and lunch two of the top fifty in one day YIPEE
