COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is the pride of our stable, the nec plus ultra of our brewery. Abbey ale brewed in the classic ’Quadrupel’ style of Belgium’s best Abbey Ales. Dark with a full, ivory-colored head. It has a fruity aroma, full of complex flavours and excels because of its long bittersweet finish with a hoppy bite. Worldwide seen as one of the best beers in the world. It’s a very balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter, and sweet. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren.

Poured from a 355 ML bottle into a pint glass. Aroma- big malt and fruit smell, really good Appearance- Pours a dark brown with a big tan head. Has a lot of sediment and I let that settle before tasting. Taste- Incredible flavor, malt, hops and maybe some fruit Palate- A medium bodied beer with mild carbonation. Excellent creamy texture. Overall- A world class beer, outstanding.

I had this several times and this is one of the best quadrupels. It does not reach thefruity flavours of the Rochefort but is somewhat drier and also very complex. You have to dig in it to get all it contains.

Sampled via bottle at the Big Texas Beer Fest. Poured a hazy brown with a thick cream top. Taste of alcohol, toffee, Belgian yeast, and dried fruits. Highly active carbonation on the palate, medium body. Final thoughts: overkill on the alcohol flavor.

11.2 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Pours dark, reddish brown; off-white head, some minimal spotty lacing. Aroma of dark fruit, yeast and caramel. Taste of caramel, fruit and bread. Balanced, enjoyable and quite drinkable; very good beer.

Pours a dark hazy brown with a small but long lasting foamy tan head. Lots going on with the aroma, bready caramel malt, slightly herbal hop note, doughy yeast and figs, plums and other fruits. Lots going on here! As the description reads it is nicely balanced sweet, bitter and malty and the alcohol is hardly noticable! A complex and very enjoyable beer, very nice indeed.

Bottle split with a friend. Pours a deep, dark, rich mahogany color. Aroma is complex molasses, fig, raisin, and cherry, with caramel notes as well. Flavor is sweet and sour fruit up front, with a lingering bitterness. Delicious. Palate is a bit chewy, not unpleasant. Overall a great beer.
