tagz (307), USA Nov 28, 2007 Updated: Jun 24, 2008 750 bottle. pours cloudy brown/orange with a thick cakey head. nice musty yeast aroma. taste begins with some barnyard funk and rounds out with a sweet brown sugar flavoring that reminded me of ginger snaps. warm alcohol bite at the end that imparts some taste but is not unpleasant. despite the sugar the palate is crisp with subtle carbonation. i really enjoyed sipping this one, but over time the sweetness wore on me. although if they toned it down at all the alcohol might be too much. would be a good after dinner drink to cap off a nice meal. don’t think i’d want to do the 750 on my own though. recently tried this on draft and it was much less sweet than the bottle. helped accentuate the yeast. bumping this up a bit and planning to give it another rate in the future to see which taste prevails.
PaulHegedus (46), Brampton, Ontario, Canada Aug 29, 2008 Bottle at Beer Bistro, Toronto, July 2007. Pours a dark reddish brown with a generous foaming head. I smell wonderful aromas of dark dried fruit, apple, caramel. This thing is loaded with flavour, complex: raisin, prune, licorice, sugar, alcohol. oberabcbbsok (679), Hoboken, Belgium Aug 29, 2008 A very nice and good ballanced beer. Tasted on draft as well as on bottle. Fruity and full bodied with a great aftertaste. A must for everybody. Homer321 (73), Rockledge, Florida, USA Aug 29, 2008 I drank this right after a westy 12 b/c i’ve heard it’s as close as you can get without going to the monestary. It is similar, but much more carbonation. nose is of candi sugar and slight alcohol. The high carbonation takes away from the taste. A very thin mouthfeel, though. hints of fruit, but just a tease. phishpond417 (1409), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 28, 2008 Finally- And on draught too! Pours a deep ruby red/mahogany with a large creamy almond coloured head. Aroma is fruity- black cherry, mangoe, brown sugar and raisins. Taste is semi sweet, again notes of dark, overripe fruits- apples, peaches and possilby a little bananna. Cloves and other spice is noticeable in the finish. Well carbonated, great structure holds up well in the mouth. muddy67 (3), Marietta, Georgia, USA does not count Aug 28, 2008 There’s a reason I keep this one on tap at home and the price is totally justified when it hits your tongue. Huge malt aroma and flavor. Sweetness balanced out by high alcohol content and mild hop character. Dark fruits dominate this flavor along with yeasty spiciness. Please don’t drink it ice cold because you’re wasting your money.
