COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is the pride of our stable, the nec plus ultra of our brewery. Abbey ale brewed in the classic ’Quadrupel’ style of Belgium’s best Abbey Ales. Dark with a full, ivory-colored head. It has a fruity aroma, full of complex flavours and excels because of its long bittersweet finish with a hoppy bite. Worldwide seen as one of the best beers in the world. It’s a very balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter, and sweet. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren.

Very bold aroma...pours very dark with a light brown head that lasts. Flavor consists of malts, maple syrup, and yeast. Alcohol is present but does not dominate. Thick and rich on the way down with a surprisingly light and sweet aftertaste.

Stands on same level as Westvleteren 12, Westmalle and Rochefort 10. Smell urges to taste. Thick foam. Rich correct Abbey beer taste. Right hop and mix of bitter, sour, sweat and coffee. You are not aware that taste is 10.2% , caramel, koffie

Excelente breja.

330cc bottle poured (gushing) into glass. Color is dark brown with a lot of sediment. The off white head is initially large but doesn’t stay for long. Full body, medium-high carbonation. Sweet malty taste with caramel and ripe fruit aroma. Low bitterness. High ABV is very obvious. Excellent beer.

Pours a dark amber, hints of purple, golden-brown and a nice 2 finger, off-white head. Some sediment in the glass, but typical of the style. Aromas are initially sweet with caramel, toffee, banana and dark fruit coupled with some clove, allspice and lingering alcohol. Taste is very rich and balanced. Much like the nose. No surprises here, just a great balance. Maybe some hints of tobacco and leather along with the well-hidden alcohol. Finishes with a moderate bitterness and nice interplay of the malt/yeast.

Pours dark brown with small head that doesn't last very long. Smells like liquor, alcohol, medicine, siruppy. Taste is quite alcoholic, caramel, banana.

Bottle at home. 2 years old. Has a deep, nut brown colour with a big, light brown head. Nice aroma of dried fruit, chocolate, leather, cured meat, alcohol and beech. Has a malty and rich flavour with more chocolate, rye bread, sweet malt and some leather. The mouth feel is rich and soft, and has a light bitterness. A rich, sweet and wonderful quad.

This is something else, one of my favourites. Rich and soft taste, slightly sweet and floral. Mixes of many spices. You feel the alcohol in the end in a wonderful away. A truly great beer.

After drinking more of them, I really have to change my opnion of it. It’s not the same as the westvleteren XII, but beers like these make drinking beer funny.

Bottle. Dark brown, foggy with a big frothy light brown head. Aroma has yeast, ripe fruit, raisin and wood. Taste has nut, orange, wood and malt. Surprisingly strong carbonation. Well-rounded light aftertaste. Very easy going dispite the high alcohol content. Characteristic.
