The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is the pride of our stable, the nec plus ultra of our brewery. Abbey ale brewed in the classic ’Quadrupel’ style of Belgium’s best Abbey Ales. Dark with a full, ivory-colored head. It has a fruity aroma, full of complex flavours and excels because of its long bittersweet finish with a hoppy bite. Worldwide seen as one of the best beers in the world. It’s a very balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter, and sweet. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren.

Wow! THis is just outstanding. My friend told me this is one of the few beers he can find nothing wrong with, and now I know why. It was hard not giving this great beer a perfect score. It pours a murky redish light brown with an off white thick but dissapating head that leaves a mighty fine lace. The aroma is amazing. Bananas and prunes, and yet so much more that I can’t put my finger on. And the flavor...mmmmm...it’s fruity and balanced well with hops. Yeah, theyr’e there. The reasin that I gave a 9 for flavor is that the alcohol is quite detectable where I think it could be hidden a little more. The palate has a nice dry, lasting bitterness. With an alcohol sting. Overall I think it’s by far the best Abt ever.

Very heavy beer with a smooth taste of chocolates and hints of vanilla. Beautiful matched body. Almost too easy to drink.

Poured a rich mahogany with an ample off white head. Sweet brown sugar, caramel, raisins, and plums dazzled in the aroma. My mouth overflowed with the flavors of toffee, caramel, brown sugar, and light stone fruit. The mouthfeel was smooth and there was a chewy quality to it which mixed nicely with the slight bite from the alcohol. This was definitely one of the best beers I’ve ever had the pleasure of drinking.

Molto buona, complessa, praticamente completa. Un piccolo meno sull’aspetto e il colore.

Donkerbruin bier met snelzakkende schuimkraag. Neus geeft veel alcohol met zoet karameltoets. Mondgevoel is vol met zoetige afdronk en fruitige toets. Een topper!

330cc bottle. Smells caramel, cocoa and hop. The taste is like the nose also fruity. Very "trappist" like. A fantastic beer with a very soft and friendly alcohol . It is not the flavor explosion felt with a Westvleteren XII or even a Rocheford 10 but outstanding drink also!

Very nice Belgian quad. Nice dark color with some sweetness from the fruit and yeast. Nice and smooth for a quad. Finishes subtlety on the palate, fades after a minute or so.

330 mL bottle. Pours deep walnut with a thick pale head. Big, dark fruity nose, applesauce, fig, toasted dark bread. Some leathery, earthy, spicy hop presence. Cocoa and yeasty esters. Full bodied with high carbonation. Light malty sweetness balanced with gentle hopping and a hint of alcohol. Creamy texture, with great length. Exceptional.

St. Bernardus 12 is a great alternative to Westvleteren 12, and much more available. I couldn't really even notice difference in taste. Great beer!
