The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is the pride of our stable, the nec plus ultra of our brewery. Abbey ale brewed in the classic ’Quadrupel’ style of Belgium’s best Abbey Ales. Dark with a full, ivory-colored head. It has a fruity aroma, full of complex flavours and excels because of its long bittersweet finish with a hoppy bite. Worldwide seen as one of the best beers in the world. It’s a very balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter, and sweet. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren.

Bottle, approximately two years or more old. Whoops? Pours a coffee hued caramel brown with a large creamy tanned beige head. Big sweet malt, hints of cocoa and coffee, malty and sweet, loads of caramel and oxidization. Beautiful. Medium bodied, smooth and soft. Malty and warm, full of caramel and oxidization. Rich and yet still delicate and balanced. Really nice balance of oxidized malt and caramel. A lot of depth. Malty and smooth, lingering sweet malt and caramel. Never boozy, super smooth and drinkable. Warming hints on the finish, more caramel.

Aromat - czerwone jabłko, toffi, rodzynki, lekko cherry i melasa. Piana - średnia, ale obfita. Szybko się dziurawi. nie zdobi szkła. Wysoka słodycz, i takież wysycenie. nuty porto w smaku, delikatny karmel, lekkie praliny, coś na kształt ciasteczek . Alkohol nieobecny. Goryczka niska.

From the bottle poured into Trappist glass pours dark brown with off white head that lasts some time. Nose is roasted malt liquorice and some faint booze. Taste is slightly hoppyy roasty and some dry liquorice... Finish is quite some hoppy bitterness for a Quad...

10%ABV. Abbey quad. Poured out dark red brown. 30ºSRM. Nose has stone dust, old dry wood, sawdust, nutty roasted aromas as well. Sweet. There are toast and black bread flavors. Mouthfeel is carbonated. Palate is sweet toasted malt with caramel, southern praline, toasted pecans and hazelnuts. Noble hops and alcohol at the end. There is a hint of wormwood and sandalwood in the finish that is perfumed and woody. Adds some layers to the bitter flavor that you get at the tail end. Finish is beery and noble hop bitter. Very pleasant and demonstrating the classic palate of an abbey quad. Goes on Favorites List!

Bouteille 33cl, V&B Grenoble.

Incredible! 10abv. Malty with loud alcohol flavor. Who cares, b/c it's so damned good. Abt means "highest rank" as an Abbey beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very dark pour with lightly colored puffy head. Aroma is dates, raisins, slight roasted caramel. Flavor is delicate caramel malt with dried fruit. Very high carbonation. Lingering finish. It’s been 10 years since I first had this. It once was in my top five and it’s now just very good. Speaks a lot to the current market.
