COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The St. Bernardus Abt 12 is the pride of our stable, the nec plus ultra of our brewery. Abbey ale brewed in the classic ’Quadrupel’ style of Belgium’s best Abbey Ales. Dark with a full, ivory-colored head. It has a fruity aroma, full of complex flavours and excels because of its long bittersweet finish with a hoppy bite. Worldwide seen as one of the best beers in the world. It’s a very balanced beer, with a full-bodied taste and a perfect equilibrium between malty, bitter, and sweet. One of the original recipes from the days of license-brewing for the Trappist monks of Westvleteren.

Bottle. The pour was a murky medium chestnut brown with an average sized (1-2 finger) light brown frothy head that reduced to a large cap, which lasted throughout and allowed for some excellent sheets of lace. The aroma was a dark bread malt and a sweaty yeast with notes of caramel, a host of dark fruit (black cherries, plums, figs and raisins) and a large hint of alcohol. The taste was moderately sweet and a bit acidic with a nice caramel flavor in the beginning, and finished sweetly acetic with a big dose of dark fruit and a heavy alcohol funk at the end. The flavor lasted for quite a while with a fruity alcohol warming sensation left behind for one to enjoy. Mouthfeel was medium in body with a creamy, dry, syrupy texture and a nice lively carbonation. Overall this is an intensely satisfying and tasty beer, with a ton of unique flavors that are blended together extremely well. This is most definitely a brew to be savored again and again…

Smells like fruits and nuts. Has a dark ruby color. Has a taste of cherries, figs, plums, mixed with a port wine. Later you get a taste of oak, combined with some hops. It has a bitter finish.

Chaque gorgée a quelque chose à faire découvrir.

Bottle. Excuse me, could I have my beer back? Someone stole it and left me with a glass of head. Now, that said...Pours a clear red-brown with a very, very high light brown head; extremely creamy, extremely lacy, and very very solid. Looks like you could walk on it. On the palate, it’s a bakery gone wild; dark fruit. spice, vanilla, and yeasty notes. Finish is long and sweet. Darn Belgians. They’re too good at this.

0,33 bottle. Muddy, brown beer with a noisy beige foam. Aroma: strong, wine, sweetness of caramel and toffee, dried fruits and higher esters.Taste: port wine mixed with toffee, caramel, dried fruits, spices, candy sugar, brandy. Great beer!

Dark fruit, yeast, ’brown shugga’, dark malts... quite a quaff. If I was stuck on a desert island with only only type of beer, I would not be a happy camper... but half a dozen types? This would be a good choice for one of them. Very fine blend of flavors, good complexity, well hidden ABV, not too sweet and overall well balanced. A tribute to the brewers art

330ml bottle pours a deep ochre brown with decent off white head fading to cap. Nose is roast chestnuts, toasted malts and well toasted toast. Taste is, wow, nutty, creamy, bit of oak. Brilliant mouth feel, full bodied medium carbonation. Lots to love little to fault.

Somewhat cloudy dark brown. Nose grain, yeast, forest fruit. Medium bodied, not dry at all, light fresh aftertaste. Taste caramel, yeast, grain, alcohol, some red fruit. Much abbey beer, very natural, lots of grain, not much else going on. Basic, but well done. Very pleasant.

Deep colour. Slim foam. Elegant. Sweet fruits. Oh well, the taste is so belgian I got a sudden craving of waffles. Great, just awesome. If I were a monk (or not) I’d brew and drink this.
