Commercial Description:
St. Bernardus Christmas Ale is the youngest descendant in the illustrious family of delicious Abbey Ales by Brewery St. Bernardus. This specialty beer of 10% alc. vol. is characterized by its deep dark colour, with a creamy, thick head and a full, almost velvety taste with a fruity nose. It's a seasonal ale, brewed annually for the holiday season. The long winter nights are perfect moments to savour this ale with or without friends and to enjoy its unique, complex taste and after-taste.

750 ml bottle shared by toncatcher. Lots of bready yeasty aromas and caramel character off this clear brownish red beer. Flavors were similar with touches of spice to finish it off. Very good.

750ml bottle. this was a great Christmas gift that drank on Christmas ’08. poured dark brown with creamy tan head. nose of plums, toffee, and esters. flavors of the same, some spices of clove. the alcohol was very well hidden. another solid St. B beer but if I would probably pick the 12 or 8 over this in the future.

Had a small beer tasting at my house. This beat out Brown Shugga, Bourbon County Stout, and a Chocolat beer from Kirin. Smooth as velvet, beautiful fruity aroma. Taste of sweet spices. Simply wonderful!

On tap at International Beer Garten (Lutz, FL). Pours a rich mohogany color with a beige head. Aroma contains lots of fruits, dominated mostly by grape, as well as sweet malt and spices. The flavor is a nice mixture of spices and fruit, again with grapes leading the way. The 10% is extremely well hidden.

Pours dark brown with a mostly maintained wispy tan head. Aroma of cloves, plum, toffee, bubble gum, and banana. Taste is nice and yeasty, with a good mix of esters and phenolics. Notes of clove, chocolate, bubble gum, and vinous malt. Mouthfeel is full bodied with lush carbonation. A very elegant beer, quite enjoyable!

On tap at Gingerman Austin. Snifter. Nose is spicy and chocolately. Taste is very nosy, chocolately and full of spices. Big issue comes with the palate-this was a very thin beer with not much punch for a 10 percent ABV beer. It was very alcoholic but left a lot to be desired because of the thin palate. Disappointing.

Deep brown body with a pretty frothy off-white head. The aroma is full of cloves, almost overly, but there are some dark fruits and other spices in there. The taste is about the same, but more balanced in the clove sense. Pretty good, but not one of the best Belgian Christmas brews.

Bottle. dark brown with a huge tan head. Sweet orange, but also tart berries aroma. Hints of almonds as well. Sweet chocolate blending with orange and caramel. Some roast, but orange freshness prevails. Quite fizzy. Definitely on the sweet side, but highly complex fruitiness more than compensates for that.
