The aroma is dark fruits and spices, and has an almost whiskey-like sweetness to it. The body is very smooth and the flavor touches on raisin and plum sweetness, before yielding to toasty, spicy, and earthy notes. Very nice. daknole (2891), Plantation, Florida, USA

Aroma is sweet and spicy with some notes of caramel and wood. Taste is of dark dried fruits, caramel, candy sugar and it finishes with a tiny twinge of tartness. Very nice holiday brew. This one would be great in cold weather! patrick767 (2019), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 27, 2008 bottle - Pours dark amber with a huge, fluffy tan head. It smells of caramel malt, holiday spices, and some yeast. It tastes of malt, dark fruit, and spice. The finish is on the dry side with spreading alcohol warmth and lingering spices that really fit the cold months and the holiday season. Very nice. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA

Slightly cloudy ruddy brown color with a small circle of soapy white head. Sweet Belgian malts and caramel aroma with spices and mild yeasty notes. Sweet taste, alcohol apparent but not overwhleming, nice spicy component and mild tartness at the end. Nice winter brew. Travlr (727), Washington, Washington DC, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 26, 2008 Amber brown, thin light tan head, scant malty aroma. Full mouth, light chocolate start with caramel, but not too sweet. i’d like to try this one after laying it down for 3 or 4 years - hopefully will become more complex. benwah22 (14), , Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 26, 2008 I’m pretty sure my nose is working, but I really did not get much aroma out of this at all. I had to almost stick my nose in the beer to get anything out of it. I will say it looks great in a chalice though. Deep amber with a hue of red and nice lacy khaki head. The flavor on it is similar to the other St. Bernardus ales. Sweet, dark brown sugar flavors with an alcohol/metallic finish. Surprisingly light mouth feel with high carbonation for a 10% beer. Definitely enjoyable and a good one to try... but not a favorite. GodOfThunder (861), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Nov 21, 2008 Thanks to Redlight for getting this on draft. The black-amber pour almost comes off as a deep, dark, purple color with a good amount of carbonation. Smells super bready and malty with some winter spices. Going down, it is smooth and not too strong at all. The spice components are actually more in the background, with notes of nutmeg, allspice and some black licorice. Tasty brew, as you would expect. zvikar (424), Tel-Aviv, Israel
