Probably my favorite holiday beer. Tastes kind of like the abt 12 with cherries. A better version of mad elf.

The aroma is limited to a few spicy notes of indeterminate nature. It is a very sweet ale that tastes pleasantly of candy, in a way that only Belgians can do sweet beer. The sweetness is retained by heavy fruit notes as fig, plum, prune and raisin. There can also be found flavors of cinnamon, clove and anise flavor slightly. Hop bitterness is high not to find. The alcohol in this ale is high and it felt on warming certain taste. If you like strong Belgian ale is this a real good bet.

First sip was "hey, not bad". Second one was "ok, it tastes alcohol and it will be difficult to finish my glass". It’s a Belgian Ale after all, and it isn’t my type. It’s strong, and have a complex taste (beside alcohol), but I can’t figure what am I drinking and the final product isn’t good fory my tastes.

Christmas aroma ;) rich and malty brew. Candy sugar. Heavily spiced. Belgian strong ale trending towards barley wine.

From NOTES. A: Sweet dark caramel malts, dark fruits, Belgian yeast, clove, coriander, pepper, other spices, candi sugar, booze. A: Dark hazel with very little head. Nice lacing. T: STUNNING! A sweet, bready, malt bomb with spices galore. Absolutely nothing I would change or add, it is perfectly balanced. ABV is completely hidden. P: ull bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth with a warming, sweet, and lightly spicy finish. O: My favorite Christmas beer. Another fantastic beer from St. Bernardus, deep and complex. A great beer to sip over a long evening.

Large bottle that had been aged 4 or 5 years in my refrigerator. Metallic aroma didn’t promise much. The flavor was worlds better with some great sweetness and fruits in the mid-palate. Dark brown, lots of head, great pop and distance from the cork, some alcohol obvious. But overall very good.

Bottle in Brussels. Nice brown body with white head. Nose floral, bananas and sweet. Taste of caramel, fruits, bananas and bitter. Nice finish.

(on Tap) Pours a medium brown with almost no head. Very smooth almost to the point of seeming watered down. It hides the alcohol content well. I wish it were a little thicker and the flavor lasted longer. The smooth syrupy flavor disappears too quickly to really enjoy it. Hard to savor it when it doesn’t hang around for long. Its not bad but it could be better. I like Belgian style ales but this isn’t one of my favorites.

Bottle. Aroma is very nice, doughy and yeasty, rich and fruity too, plums, booze, caramel, toffee, all sorts of good stuff. Marzipan. Taste is rich, delicious, fruity and yeasty. Can’t see much difference from the regular 12, but I haven’t had that for a while. Although maybe this is a bit fruitier. Imagined it would be spicier.
