Four year old bottle. Still quite live. Pours ruby brown with a fizzy tan soapy head. Aroma of dark fruit. Flavor of plums, raisins, and spice. Impressive lacing. Just velvety goodness in a glass.

Thanks to El Gordo for this one--Poured a deep black-brown body with small whitish head. Nose of grapefruit, brown sugar, molasses, and dark fruits. Roasty, complex and quite scrumptious. Warm, smooth, and dry finish. Very nice!

Bottle. Pours hazy dark brown nearly black with a dense yellow/beige colored head. Aroma is dark fruit, cinnamon, spice, alcohol, fig, yeast. Flavor is chocolate, toffee, cinnamon, figs, raisins, clove, yeast, alcohol. Palate is medium to full bodied, medium to high carbonation, finishes sweet and slightly hot. Deelicious!!

Bottle. Used this as an accompaniment to a spareribs stew with spicy paprika. Based on that your mileage may vary. Pours with some effervescent carbonation and a nice brown color. To my great dismay my wife likes it as much as I do. In any case this is a great beer. It has great flavors of dark fruit, some spicy yeast and some toffees. very supple, rich mouthfeel and finish. This one works also well with cheese.

750ml bottle from GM Liquors in my St Bernardus Watou glass. Nose very raisiny, plummy, with caramelly sweetness and clovey spiciness. Clear brown with a small beige head. Flavor is sweet caramel, light alcohol warmth, lots of fruitiness, and a little peppery spiciness. Finish is fruity, spicy, and lightly sweet with a mild warmth.

750 ml corked and caged. Pours a dark orange red with a large, long lasting carbonated head. Aroma of brown sugar and caramel noted. Yeast taste noted with some spiciness as well. Alcohol was there but just a slight hint of it. Well balanced and smooth going down. Another great brew from the Grinning Monk.

(75 cl bottle brought home from Denmark) Shady brown color with yeast particles, huge foam settling to a creamy tan head. Lots of CO2, the cork almost killed me... Fresh scent, spicy and some alcohol, sweet as well. Full and also spritzy mouthfeel. Spicy and Belgian ale yeast taste with a warming alcohol feeling.

Bottle from O’Brien’s in San Diego. Brew poured a deep, dark brown with a medium sized, fizzy off white head. Nose had hints of raisins, plums, and other dark fruits. This beer needed to sit for a while, it was a bit rough on the take off. After about a 1/2 hour, a lot of bold fruit flavors started to appear. Ended up being a great brew!
