Extra 4 is a classic Belgian “Single” style, light golden in color, full of flavor and character and brewed with more hops and bitterness in comparison to the other well known St Bernardus abbey ales. Extra 4 will be brewed with high fermentation and bottled conditioned with an ABV of 4.8%. Extra 4 will be a unique, tasty and refreshing spring and summer quencher with a lower alcohol content than such other popular St Bernardus products as Abt 12, Tripel and Prior 8.

Deep and cloudy greenish straw, tight lace. Medium body, pronounced flavor, low heat, long and tasty but mild aftertaste. Moderately bitter, dry. Very hoppy, spicy, grapefruity, Quite tasty and refreshing. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a hazy golden yellow from the bottle with fluffy white head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of spicy Belgian yeast esters, mild earthy hops, and a hint of light fruit. Taste follows with a bit more of the floral and earthy hop punch. Light and easy, super easy to drink, good stuff.

UPDATED: OCT 16, 2016 Bottle 33cl. Blonde coloured, little carbonation, tiny white head. Aroma of fruits (peaches, strawberry) and yeast. The taste is surprisingly bitter with little development. Not bad though.

Bottled on U.S. Tax Day, 2016. The color is a cloudy yellow. It’s absolutely opaque, wonderful. Tons of floaty yeast sediment. The aroma is yeast and just slight Belgian funk. It is an old world funk bonanza. Minor lemon, minor citrus, heavy breads. I love it but I also appreciate it for what it is. I’ll bet it would age beautifully. The flavor is bready stuff. Tons of yeast, but a hint of pineapple. The citrus is a beautiful accent to the Old World yeast accent. The feel is a bready yeast feel. This whole beer is just a straight yeast bomb, but I am eternally down. Respect, Bernie.

Bottle:   Dirty yellow straw, some orange hues, large foamy white head, nice lacing, sediment about.   Bright dusty nose, a little barnish and musty.   A little citrusy on the tongue, otherwise a bright yeasty Belgian Ale.   Pretty nice for a single?   Clean, lingering dusty and basement like yeastie bits.   A nice change of pace as of late.   Enjoyed this more than I thought I would.   Moderate body and mouthfeel.   Nice brew!
