Extra 4 is a classic Belgian “Single” style, light golden in color, full of flavor and character and brewed with more hops and bitterness in comparison to the other well known St Bernardus abbey ales. Extra 4 will be brewed with high fermentation and bottled conditioned with an ABV of 4.8%. Extra 4 will be a unique, tasty and refreshing spring and summer quencher with a lower alcohol content than such other popular St Bernardus products as Abt 12, Tripel and Prior 8.

If you're into the trendy "session" beers (aka weak beer not worth the calories), and want a descent abbey session, then pick some up. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a brilliant light golden color with a medium sized beady white head. Notes of greens, yeast, honey, and fresh air with a little bit of spice. Extremely carbonated mouthfeel that burns.

butelka, warka do 24-02-17. Imponujaca biala piana, opadajaca dosc powoli i brudzaca szklo, samo piwo jasne, zoltawe, metne. aromaty owocowe (cytrusy w tym cytryna, jakies morele), ziolowo-przyprawowe nieirytujaco (mimo, ze znow czuje gdzies w tle cos a la kolendre), nieco herbatnikowych nutek... w smaku mniej wiecej alnalogicznie, dosc wytrawne, lekko kwaskowate, odswiezajace bardzo i czuc wszystko z aromatu. lekkie, rzeskie, goryczka wyczuwalna ale niewysoka. fajne

330 (I think)--thanks, J. Very cool treat. I did not know they were even making this beer. Pours a hazy dark gold with a loose and sudsy whitish head. Sweet, lightly spicy nose, showing some tight damp hay notes in with the grain and sugars. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Toasty, grainy, damp hay mid palate, mild husky finish.

Bottle marked A 16 04 16. Nose is grainy, golden, sunny pils malt, but sweet and candyish -- tripel-like. Pours clear golden, very light carbonation and a short soapy white head. Taste moderately dry, certainly attenuated and digestible, with that sugary candy coating on top. Golden malt with some honey character, only lightly grainy with a touch of buttery roundness at its base. Low bitterness (peaking in the aftertaste), lower hoppiness, medium body airy enough to feel full at times, mildest spice. Very plain and straightforward, but there’s joy in the clean simplicity. Hazy orange-yellow color with big white head. Aroma is fresh, peppery, citrusy, grassy, light sweetness. Taste is similar, peppery-citrusy with hints of grass, lemongrass even. Light crackery mouthfeel, bitter dry finish. A quencher, and nice to see Bernardus hit it off with a sub-5ABV beer. Untypical, but definitely a good brew!

bottle. Golden with one finger head. Belgian singles are a hugely underappreciated style. This is absolutely textbook. Light body, just a bit fruity with mild yeasty sweetness. I could drink this all day.

Bottle from Beergium. Pale golden color, white head. Bitter taste with citrus, earthy notes, biscuit, grass and a bit of hops. Bitter finish with citrus, earthy notes, hops and grass. Good Belgian ale.

Bottle. Golden body, medium head. Weak aroma with some light hops and yeast. Slightly sourish taste with sweet malts. Thin body. Bland finish. Quite boring and underwhelming, especially when one considers their main beers which are true classics (this also goes for the Wit, which is perhaps the best witbier that I’ve had). Not worth seeking out.
