COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Extra 4 is a classic Belgian “Single” style, light golden in color, full of flavor and character and brewed with more hops and bitterness in comparison to the other well known St Bernardus abbey ales. Extra 4 will be brewed with high fermentation and bottled conditioned with an ABV of 4.8%. Extra 4 will be a unique, tasty and refreshing spring and summer quencher with a lower alcohol content than such other popular St Bernardus products as Abt 12, Tripel and Prior 8.

If you're into the trendy "session" beers (aka weak beer not worth the calories), and want a descent abbey session, then pick some up. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle poured a golden in color with a thin coating of white head. Aroma has grains, dusty hops, mild malts, and some yeast. Mouth feel is light with good carbonation. Flavor has grains, clean, mild malts, aged hops and some dust.

Hazy hay color, smells like hay and tastes like... hay. Wanted to try the St. Bernardus varieties and had to choose twixt this and the brown dubbel. My mistake, as this was not worth the expenditure. At Budweiser prices, the Extra 4 would be on my list, but not at Belgian Ale prices. It’s complex enough, includes hops, but with a low ABV and fairly barnyard flavor it’s pretty ordinary.

Some maltiness, light fruitiness, decent hops, light yeast. Moderate to light sweetness with moderate to light bitterness. Very decent, wel lbalanced, but nothing special about this one. Would be nice thirst quencher

Pale yellow with clear white head. More hops than the average ale, pear, yeast, lemon zest, dough. Fizzy and oily feel. Medium dry finish. Packs a lot of taste.

UPDATED: FEB 21, 2015 Bottle (BB Apr 2016). Head is initially large, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain/bread), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers), lightly yeasty (cobwebs, basement), with light notes of honey, soap, and apple. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/velvety texture, lively carbonation. Well, shucks. I had a bottle at Louisville Beer Store (albeit in a wide-mouthed goblet and too cold) and it rocked pretty heavily, so I bought two more bottles to bring home. In a better glass, some unpleasant aromatic notes are apparent, and it’s not as bright and balanced as I had thought. Still purty good, but certainly not great.

Pours a hazy golden amber color with a thick white head. A malty, spices, Belgian, St. Bernardas aroma with a grassy hop aroma. Dry and fizzy mouth feel. Spices and tropical fruit, then a nice malt flavour comes through. There is an undeniable St. Bernadus taste in there. Great Beer!
