Travlr (700), Washington, Washington DC, USA Nov 28, 2008 Dark brown with medium tan head. Aroma of raisins and malt. Medium-mouthed, flavor of raisins, caramel. A junior version of the Prior - in strength, not in flavor. Very nice. tarheels86 (704), Washington DC, USA Nov 28, 2008 Pours a hazy, muddy brown with a smaller off-white head that dwindles down quite a bit. Lacing is mild. Aromas of yeast, spice, and alcohol. Taste is very tart and a bit sour. Lots of molasses, unsweetened cocoa, toffee, caramel malts, dark fruits (raisins, plums), and black pepper. Mouthfeel is a bit thin. Aftertaste is very dry. A decent dubbel and a very complex Belgian. But this is nowhere near my favorite for the style. benwah22 (14), , Florida, USA Nov 27, 2008 I’m not going to even go in depth with this one. Basically, think "St. Bernardus quality" in a brew that allows you to have 3 or more without getting completely plastered. At its core this is a watered down Belgian - and I mean that in the best way possible. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Nov 21, 2008 Sampled on draught at the Brasserie V in MAdison: Pours a deep dark copper colour with a huge beige head. Aroma is pleasent, very fruity- like bright fruits and roasted malts. Taste is full slightly citrusy and yeasty but balanced and rich. petermadsen (391), Vesterbronxxx, Denmark Nov 20, 2008 A neat beer with an aroma of darwk fruit and caramel. The flavour is balanced with fruit, malt and a soft bitterness. Quite fine! sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Nov 19, 2008 Pours dark brown, beige head.
Aroma is malty with nice earthly notes and spices.
Taste is malty with some nice caramel addition, light dark fruits (cherry/prune), candi sugar and a good carbonation. Leaves an enjoyable tingly feel on the palate.
This one is a few steps under the greatness of the other Bernardus. Still a very enjoyable brew with just the right amount of alcohol. zathrus13 (1288), Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA Nov 17, 2008 Amber/brown, with an off white head. Aroma is fruit, malt, and sugar. Flavor is malt and fruit. Medium body. darkseduction (198), Zweibrücken, Germany Oct 23, 2008 Bottle 33cl. Cloudy dark amber colour, small but dense off-white head. Lively carbonation. Malty, hoppy in the finish, underlined with that wonderful belgian yeast. mmmmh.
