TheGrandMaster (1846), Auckland, New Zealand Aug 22, 2008 Bottle (in NZ), pours a hazy reddish-brown with a filmy head. Whiskeyish oaky and smokey aroma, with hints of citrus and medicinal notes. A heavy malty palate, quite a bit of carbonation. Some sweet fruit at first, also chocolate flavours that become more obvious in the finish, which also has some of those whiskeyish characteristics again. Worryingly easy to drink! darkguardian (506), Florida, USA Aug 18, 2008 12oz bottle. Earthy, malty nose with sweet fruits. Pours a murky bubbly brown with a big rich head. Taste is very malty with some fruit sweetness on the backend. Very well balanced. Long lingering notes of chocolate of caramel, not as strong as in the prior 8 but similar. Very very good. Jblauvs (530), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Aug 17, 2008 Murky brown pour. dissipating white head. Malty, fruity aromas. Solid Earthy malt tones in mouth. Sweet fruit and light. slight tinge of alcohol in the finish. Nothing overly exciting but still delicious. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Aug 17, 2008 From a small bottle from By the Bottle in Vancouver, WA--Poured a chestnut-mahogany body with a creamy medium beige head. Nutty, Christmas nose. Spicy, effervescent and piquantly sweet. Like many St. B beers, had a brown sugar signature flavor. Killer! DrDavid (957), Johnson, Vermont, USA Aug 8, 2008 (Bottle). Aroma is sweet plum. Pours hazy reddish brown with a large head. High carbonation, flavor is pleasingly sweet, not overpowering. Overall, a light feel, and a very pleasant experience. joeyplush (328), Garnet Valley, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 8, 2008 Pours a dark caramel brown with a tan head. Aroma and taste have hints of toffee, caramel and alcohol. Palate is thick/oily with a smooth finish. Borresteijn (1349), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 7, 2008 Bottle. At best a watered down version of the Prior 8. Taste is too sweet for me, lots of brown sugar and mouldy St-B-yeast. Won’t drink this too often. There are better St.Bernardus beers. alexsdad06 (1056), Ohio, USA Aug 4, 2008 Bottle shared by Tmoney99. Pours a hazy brown color with a medium sized beige head and decent lacing. The aroma was moderately sweet fruits, bananas, yeast, and slightly oxidized. The flavor was yeasty, fruity, spices, brown sugar. This was medium bodied with moderate sweetness.
