3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Cloudy brown color, solid 1/2" beige head, sheets of lace. Big aroma of caramel and fresh grain. Taste is rich malt and toffee that rides the sweet grain through a solid carbonated swallow to a finish that features just enough bittering to keep everything in check. A solid, traditional European Abbey Dubbel with a lot of sweet malt flavor and a light feel in the stomach. Recommended.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Caramel, malty sweet, yeasty spice.
Amber/brown beer with a decent cream coloured head. Has floating yeast in it.
Thick raising flavour, wood, spices, caramel, dry nuts at the end. Amazingly smooth palate, though the taste could have been more special.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
0.33 l bottle from Slijterij D’Amstelhoek, best before 3/3/2017. Clear, reddish amber with a huge, foamy, stable, tan head. Sweetish-malty aroma of toffee, nuts and cane sugar with hints of raisins. Sweetish-malty taste of honey, toffee, nuts and cane sugar, followed by a short, slightly bitter finish. Medium to full body, very effervescent mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Very pleasant beer but a bit over-carbonated and quite one-dimensional regarding the taste. At least the rather hoppy finish balances the sweetness.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours dark, cloudy brown with a stable, lasting off-white head. Beautiful lacing. Aroma of toffee, caramel, nuts, dark fruits, yeast and spices. Autumn-like with a vinous undertone. Well-brewed aroma. Taste is smoothly sweet with a soft notes of caramel, dark fruits, yeast and spices. Soft, in this sense, that they remain a bit flat. Bitterish towards the end, slightly dryish in the aftertaste, but a nutty sweetness lingers long. Creamy texture, light bodied and a bit too carbonated. Well-crafted brew with a great aroma, yet a bit unbalanced and tastewise a bit too bland and lacking in complexity for a Bernardus. All in all, still a great little brother within the Bernardus family.
