markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA May 21, 2008 11.2 oz. bottle from Total Wine. Pours a murky brown color with a slight off-white head. Aroma is of toffee and dark fruit. Nice malty taste with hints of brown sugar, maybe. Somewhat dry in the finish with some bread and lots of carbonation at the swallow. Good beer, but not Bernardus’s best. v64 (74), Austin, Texas, USA May 21, 2008 Strong, immediately noticeable aroma, quite fruity. Very little head. Pours an interesting color, murky light brown. The fruit fully comes out in the taste, raisin like, definite dark fruit flavor. A bit too much carbonation for my taste. Even so, a delicious beer that I’ll be back for more of in the future. soyorganic (217), Denver, Colorado, USA May 17, 2008 Bottle: Dark brown color with a rasinish aroma. Very smooth medium carbonation, lightly sweet brown sugar flavor. I had the Prior 8 last night and it spoiled me, this seems like a junior version of that. 17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 13, 2008 Updated: May 14, 2008Pours dark murky brown with a large frothy creamy beige head. Great cinnamon and brown sugar aroma, nutty and vinous. Flavor is fluffy cinnamon and brown sugar coated green apples. A little bit vinous and a tad nutty. Candied malt, some banana and also dried fruits. Flavors are not particular strong and finish with a hint of alcohol. Extremely fluffy mouthful, a little bit too much too swallow. Similar to Witkap-Pater single. HopBackDoc (393), Hatboro, Pennsylvania, USA May 11, 2008 On draft at the Federal Grille in Allentown, PA. Fairly clear brown pour with minimal head. Flavor is malts, dried fruits, mild spice, and a dry finish. Nice mellow alcohol warming. Nice Belgian brew. efrumtheidiot (190), Maryland, USA May 8, 2008 pours a murky, muddy brownish amber with an off-white head. aroma is malty, with some fruit (ripe red apple, some tart berry), with a little spice and some alcohol. taste is wineish, a bit sour some more of the ripe apple, a little fig & grape set in heavy at first, followed by a mellowing where the malt comes through with some sweet notes, then finishes a little dry and leaves a fruity (again, i’m getting a lot of ripe red apple) resin on the tongue. mid-light body with some prickly carbonation. not a bad brew, definitely a session-type. overall a tasty beer that’s not as complex as the abt 12 or prior 8, but a good drinker nonetheless. i’d like to try this alongside st. bernardus’ tripel, as i’m seeing some similarities. NOTE: judging from other reviews, mine may have gone a bit bad, will re-buy & rereate when i get a chance. trevor211 (500), Seattle, Washington, USA May 7, 2008 Pours a beautiful ruby bronze with a big, fluffy head. Spices, sweet fruits and alcohol on the nose. The flavor is sticky sweet - raisins, figs and other dark fruits, yeasty with light malts. It’s a little harsh on the palate - the carbonation is a little too extreme (even for a Belgian) and ends up making you concentrate on the feel and not the flavor. Still very good, though. dkachur (2319), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA May 7, 2008 11.2 oz bottle from Westpark in Richmond. Pours ruby colored with medium head and average retention. Aroma of brown sugar, dark fruits and yeast. Taste is roasted malt and nuts. Very drinkable.
