Pours deep murky brown color with a quickly descending lace leaving head. Winy aroma with some fruit maybe banana. I think there is a little bit more carbonation in here than I would have liked. Pretty thick though anyway. Roasty aftertaste... winy and yeasty. Pertty fruity, can’t really pick out specifics.

I expected too much I think. Sweet esters and yeasty aroma. Malty and slightly spicey but simple, then it doesnt really go anywhere from there. Avoid and get a trappist dubbel instead.

05/04 0.33 l bottle at Hopdevil, Zagreb. Darker reddish brown body with medium head. Dubbel aroma, winey with some slight fruitiness, very simple. Sweetish flavor, still fruity with some caramel and roasted sugar. Pleasant and well balanced with some slight coffee sourness. Medium bodied with no alcohol felt. Finish is pretty nice and long, caramel sweet. Good dubbel although I don’t like the style so much.

Hazy brownish color topped with a decent sized off white head. Aroma is slightly sweet, with malts and a winey characteristic. Sweet and sugary tasting, somewhat fruity with malt characters. Maybe a little too sweet. Medium bodied. A good tasting beer. Perhaps not my choice if I’m having more than a couple in the same seating. Not the cheapest thing either. Seemed similar to the Chimay Premier Red I had yesterday but if forced to I’d give this one the nod. "

A murky dark brown ale with a thick big bubbled moka head, and brownish sludge in bottle. A light caramel and chocolate aroma, with light cardamom. In mouth, a classy chocolaty malt with juniper/gin overtones, licorice, some metallic iron in finale. Overall, a good belgian brown. Bottle from LCBO X-mas 2005-06. BB 09-05-08.

Bottle.
[vintage 1998]
A beautiful deep, deep red with a medium, rather fizzy off white head on top. Aroma is sweet, lots of plums, light oxidation, raisins, some port and lightly spiced. Delicately carbonated, still feeling wonderfully fresh. Flavour starts with a lovely dose of sugary sweetness, some caramel. Then the figs, raisins, plums begin. The yeast is still present as well as a nice dryness. Not oxidized at all. Extremely pleasant and warming - good I have more of the same vintage!

Perfect pour into my Rochefort goblet. The cloudy dark brown beer creates a dark tan head that crests beautifully atop the glass’s rim. Lots of sediment, lots of lacing. Aroma is malty and sugary with some spice. Flavor is full of dark fruits including fig and raisin but also some more tripel-esque fruitiness with boozy apple. Yeast is as usual a big note here, lending earth doughiness. This beer’s superb mouthfeel is defined by the extremely fine carbonation that creates a luxurious palate without a heavy body.
