scraff (1921), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Oct 16, 2007 Murky amber, thick tan creamy head. Complex nose of golden raisins and dark bread that float over waves caramel coated plum. Flavor brings bready sweet caramel malts that balance over an earthy-like bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dark fruity finish. St. B is always quality, and this one is no exception. Thanks to Hopscotch for providing the bottle on this warm Florida beach day…
krysztofar (344), belleville, Illinois, USA Oct 14, 2007 11.2 slightly lighter in color than the 8, but no less murky. the head does not stack as tall, but is quite attractive on its own. aroma is sweet malt and candy sugar, but with more tropical fruit. pineapple, mango, and a hint of banana. sweeter and fruitier than the 8 or 12. equally as smooth but less full. still a very high quality belgian abbey. naivepegasus (183), USA Oct 3, 2007 Pours rusty brown with an explosive, creamy head. Yeast and citrus dominate the odor. It hits you with a malty, caramel taste that lingers softly on the palate. A nice, complex taste- I really like what they brew at Bernardus, and this is no letdown. Pastor (509), Maine, USA Sep 27, 2007 bottle poured Dark brown colour with off-white head that lasts . Fruity, yeast some spice smell Flavors of sweet fruit with a light almost pepper finish uhre (339), Denmark Sep 24, 2007 Aroma of fruit, candis and prune also a sweet malty aroma. The flavor has caramel, malt, fruit and a tint of alcohol. BigMilly8 (374), Holiday, Florida, USA Sep 19, 2007 From bottle : Pours a dark cloudy copper color with a big white head. Very fruity aroma with cider dominate. The body is medium, and feels very crisp on the palate. The flavor is chocolate with fruits, mainly cherry. I think it is quite good and balanced. SpudClampDawg (1027), Jasper, Indiana, USA Sep 16, 2007 Draft @ Cicero’s in St. Louis: Pours a murky copper with a lush ivory head. The aroma is esthery with lots of cidery apple and cherry. Chocolatey malt joins the mix in the body, creating a chocolate covered cherry feel. Overall, the esthers are just too abundant and the complexity of the malt can’t shine through. I would like to try again in a bottle. AR (417), Georgia, USA Sep 14, 2007 Semi-opaque molasses colored. The hearty fullness of this beer rings of caramel, and a sweet, syrupy spicy flavoring.
