malachi (62), Seattle, Washington, USA Jan 7, 2006 weak orange/lemon peel, spiced aroma, high carbonation, chocolatey/yeasty finish, warms in back of throat, alcohol taste is even throughout, pretty good, still like the 12 better Brigadier (1220), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Jan 7, 2006 Dark brown with a small head that thins quickly. Smells of licorice and toffee. The taste contains toffee, bananas and a hint of coffee. Extremely subtle and gentle, it doesn’t overpower the palate. Finish is slightly bitter but not bad. hezron (600), Viroqua, Wisconsin, USA Jan 7, 2006 Vinous, sweet grape, anise and caramel and the slightest little bit of peppery spice. Hazy amber, brown with a thinning, off-white head. Great chewy licorice, dried fruit (raisins) and caramel and a bit of brown sugar. Very yummy, much like the 12, but not as strong or rich. The finish has a slight earthy twist. Sweet, almost dry on the palate and fairly full bodied. Thanks to Brigadier for sharing this bottle. hughie (3018), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England Dec 30, 2005 Dark brown hazy beer with a small off-white head. Aroma of yeast and liquorice with malt in the background somewhere. Taste begins like tiramisu: sweet sponge soaked in alcohol with some coffee notes. Then comes sourness before a slight bitterness. But it’s all very subdued, restrained and gentle. OldMrCrow (1179), Seattle, Washington, USA Dec 26, 2005 From the bottle.
Pours a light caramel with a modest head; the nose is a straight-forward lemon-and-spice Belgian aroma; the flavor is biscuit malts with a hint of rye and a long finish of bitter and slightly soapy hops. I don’t sense so much by way of complexity, though. Mouthfeel is spritzer-like, with small bubblles; combined with the dry finish and the mere 6.7% alcohol, this is a relatively refreshing and easy-drinking beer as Belgian ales go.
thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Dec 26, 2005 This bottled brew bottled in 2004 poured a large sized head of foamy/frothy top of unnoted size long lasting unnoted colored bubbles very nice lacing. The body contained average carbonation, was very hazy and dark brown in color. Its aroma contained notes of malty floral yeast with a vinous note. Its mouth feel is initially tingly with a slightly tingly mellow palate and a mild brown malt aftertaste. Its flavor contained brown malt vinuous mild malty yesty notes. All-in-all very nice brew. pintbypint (1002), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Dec 24, 2005 330ml brown bottle. Poured with a generous tan head, somewhat frothy, some sticky lace. Reddish brown colour, some haze. Cookie-ish malts aroma, almonds (?), fruity with a mild spice note, sort of like mild banana bread. Amazingly soft palate, very mild carbonation. Body is full, slightly oily. Malty flavour, some sweetness in the middle leads to a dryish finish with some yeast and a slight tease of hops. DerWeg (750), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 21, 2005 Gift Pack 33cl, perfect condition. Extremely fine cakey/bready maltiness with a soft mouthfeel and softly sweet (almost banana) frutiness, and delicate baked-in spices mingling on the top of it. Prickly teasing light spice aroma. Elusive and yet satisfying - the best "Light Beer" on the planet, relatively speaking of course! ;) Highly drinkable and worth finding.
