This name became a reference. This beer is mostly pointed out with its product name: “a Paterke”. This “Paterke” is a chestnut coloured dark beer with a high fermentation (6.7 alcohol content) and a full taste.

UPDATED: JAN 12, 2013 Another brew from the always excellent St. Bernardus brewy. Pours somewhat brown but not dark brown with a nice and soft off-white head. Aroma is really subtle with a little nuts (WTF?) and bready notes. First sip is ridden with a not so pleasant metallic aftertaste. Blech. Once you overcome that and continue to drink on it is a pretty light brew that is nice to drink but not complex. Mouthfeel is really nice tho, fluffy and light. It is nice and malty with not much hops to speak of. Overall I’d say that this is the one I enjoyed the least from their range but it is still quite good for what it is!

Dark reddish brown beer, cloudy, with white head. Aroma: Sharp aroma of belgian yeasts, some basement/barnyard, spices, than fruity-wine aromas. Taste: Mainly sour. Flavors same as in aroma: spice herbs, wine. Body: medium, short, sour finish. Really nice Belgian Dubbel. Definitly what I’m expecting in this style.

Pours a nice dark ruby red with a small head. On the nose i get banana, and the beer also has nice yeasty and bready character. Flavor is quite good and complex with flavors of caramel, dusty leather, candi syrup with a quite nice carbonated mouthfeel. Beer has a quite dry finish and is nicely balanced.

As if I could not love a St. Bernardus brew! Even though this brewski kicks it pretty dang hard, she’s still not quite in a lofty "loved it" category. A cloudy, barnyard-mud brown with an incredibly frothy beige head pours from the monk-adorned bottle. Earthy fall leaves, leather, brown sugar, raisins, basement and spicy herbal hops are exuded from my glass. The taste matches nicely, a bright carbonation and dry feel tickle the tongue. There just isn’t as much flavour as I was hoping for. Still delicious though.

Small head, plenty of sediment, almost nontransparent. Taste is pretty odd (maybe it applies to the specific bottle I had) and reminds me homebrew: a little of yeast, of alcohol, a lot of wine. Not bad, not really good either.

I could definitely get the caramel aroma from this. Fitting as the colour of the beer also reminds me of caramel. Great drink!

Brown color wih big head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is spicy and a bit of a tart fruit. Taste is malty, but not too sweet, more spices. Complex and just Bernardus quality!

Bottle. Dark brown colour with a light brown head. Aroma has yeast, coffee, sour elements and malt. Taste is malty with a bit sour and somewhat bitter aftertaste. Earthy flavors with malt, yeast, spices and some banana.

33 cl. bottle @home. Dark brown beer, can’t make much of the aroma. Taste and palate are very good, very well balanced beer.

Dark color with caramel head. Lots of malt flavor. Bready aroma and a strong mouthfeel.

bottle. Pours slightly hazy ruby-brown, large head. Raisins, bread and caramel malts, yeast. Its not the most complex beer, but it gets extra points for having good balance and not being overwhelmingly sweet.
