| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 2, 2004 Color is a very nice dark mahagony that’s not quite clear but resonates a delightful glow. Expansive and tall foamy crown of dusty brown cream which remains for a good while. A solid thin waffle edging continues to stay present the whole glass down; impressive. Whispy webbed and tinkling lace is established all over the glass side as the cosuming progresses.
Aroma is very nice and soft with a somewhat crispy edge to it. Dark and dried cherry, banana, mixed berries, lemon waffer cookies dotted with powdered sugar and some touches of spicy yeast and phenols. Solid aroma and gets some interesting little hints and nuances as it warms, I keep thinking of a chocolate bread with cherries in it and those little lemon tea cookies as I continue to wiff it in. Yum!
Tastes are just as becoming as the wonderful display of aromas, soft and well rounded with the perfect carbonation that sits slightly dry quickly getting drier but never overly so with notes of the chocolate, berries, cherries, yeast, and lemon cookie crumbs. Quite a treat that remains smooth and inviting the whole way through. Complexing, subtle, and yummy. Super drinkable as it is beyond the threshold of any normal beer. Yet is thee calling card of the St. Bernardus line of yummy delightful treats. Drink and be merry just like the monk on the label. No wonder he looks so happy, he gets to drink this stuff everyday. Good stuff! tomthompson89 (1494), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 18, 2006 Pours a brownish amber honey w/ a full semi creamy froth. Aroma of dried dark fruits and rock candy. Medium nectar w/ ample residual effers. Crisp flavors of malted, dried dark fruits stewed in a pot full of gravel. Apricot, plumb, leather, earth, tobacco, and slight medicinal banana spice flavors emerge. Long finish w/ a blanced bittering. Finish has a slight sour citrus undertone. Overall: a dry style w/ complex flavors. Well balanced. Highly recommended. IPFreely (1470), Lewiston, New York, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 26, 2003 Pours an opaque brown, murky with some sediment, long lasting beige head. Aroma of malt, banana, wheat and yeast. Flavor had bubblegum, yeast, malt, and brown sugar. Finish was kind of short. Rounded body, if the abv. was higher i think the finish wouldve lasted a lot longer. Still quite nice. daboskabouter (1470), Fergus, Ontario, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 17, 2005 Dark cloudy auburn colour with a foamy tan head. The nose is yeasty and spicey with hints of fruit, pepper, alcohol - nice and fresh smelling. The body is malty with a fair amount of yeast. Fruity with a defenite alcohol presence. holdenn (1456), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 6, 2006 330 ml. Pours amber brown with a tall soapy fluffy head that slowly collapses. Rasins, yeast, and spiced aroma come to the nose. Sweet flavors, a little fruit, chocolate, and begian candi sugar with lots of lively carbonation on the tongue. A tasty brew. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 29, 2004 Dark ruby with a huge, fluffy tan head. The nose is full of the characteristic house yeast. Bits of dry, toasted grains, light toffee, notes of dark fruit, light smoke, doughy bread and a bit of raisin. The body is not huge, but still substantial, especially for a "smaller" Trappist-type beer. The flavor is good, but pretty dry and without much residual sweetness. The finish is warm and relaxing, with a light bitterness that keeps things interesting. Obviously a beer from St. Bernardus. I like their stuff, but they start to become all the same with a house yeast that is so dominant. Well worth trying.
