Had this sitting in my frig for a while now and I was waiting for a good reason to open it up. My reason..........Monday. What better cure for the Monday blues than a Trappist ale? Pours a murky brownish-red with a thick fluffy tan head. Aroma is slightly more subdued that I was expecting. Hints of bitter fruits, molasses, apricot, banana, and a trace of alcohol. Flavor is akin to the aroma. Not in your face, but coats your palate in a pleasant array of flavors. Raisin, caramelized brown sugar, slight hop bitterness, and just the right amount of warmth from the alcohol. Feels very soft on the palate. Overall a very easy to drink, pleasant beer. I prefer the Rochefort 6 but this one still makes a solid appearance.

0.33 bottle. Dark, hazy, brown color and a small, tanned head. Aroma of dark malts, spices, dark fruits, and dough. Taste is sweet, malty, buttery, spicy, a tad alcoholic. Medium body, slick texture, and soft carbonation. Finish is medium long and relatively well balanced with a lot of buttery notes. Overall a standard bruin.

Intense chestnut brown, small head. Yeasty bread-like aroma. Malty notes. Full aroma, dark bread, a bit sweet but developing a full and bitter taste. Quite rich for only 6,7 % alc.

This is a nice dubbel. Fairy light on the tongue in the typical Belgian way, but flavorful. Some caramel, maybe raisins, botanical yeast. Not a blockbuster like the bigger StBs.
