Pours a dark caramel amber with a medium, yet well retained light frothy brown head. Smells of big Belgian yeast, candy sugar, sweet dark fruits including plums and figs. Very Belgian smelling, quite standard. The flavor is much the same, good amount of sweet fruits to it, in fact that was mostly what I got. Decent amount of Belgian candy sugar and yeast. Very standard Belgian ale, but good flavor, nice palate, solid.

Bottle BB 7/3/2008. Poured a clear, deeper burnt orange with a looser, but creamy cap of beige head. The nose was soft and spicy, with raisins, dates, nuttiness, a little tobacco, and cloves... very nice, but a little tough to get at. The flavor found spicy dark fruits, toasted grain, hints of must, sourdough bread, and a rather high spicy bitterness coming through in the latter half of the drink... alcohol accents worked well at the tip of the tongue. Creamy on the front half of the palate with toasty higher bitterness rockin’ the back-end and finish... a tad light on the palate, but never approached being watery. This was a fine ale.

Bottle sampled with Beerded_one. Pours deep copper\amber with a decent sized off white head. Aroma of citrus, belgian style spices, slight fruit, and yeast. The flavor is smooth, sweet, fruit, yeast, citrus, toasted malts. Good body, good brew, perhaps my favorite of this style.

From a slender 11.2 oz brown bottle with a best before on the back label, 13.08.07, sampled at cellar temperature in a chalice. Poured a nice dubbel brown with a foamy, fluffy head that slowly settled into a thin fluffy, sudsy lacing, a small amount of laced sticking. Aromas of barley, roasted malts, and subtle hints of licorice and caramel. Good carbonation and a crisp, dryish, and carbonated creamy smooth light bodied mouthfeel. Nice dubbel taste, roasted barley, licorice and caramel, a pear fruitiness, a spicy, peppery hop bitterness, a little solvent-like alochol, and a dryish yeasty and malty finish. Easy, smooth drinkability, quite quaffable, a good dubbel from a quality Belgian brewery.

Small bottle. Amber-brown colour with a nice average lasting head. Sweet malty bit chocolate and somewhat fruity aroma. Great sweetish caramel malty flavour with a good fruity touch and some chocolate. Long lasting bitterish aftertaste. A very tasty brew indeed!

Pours a dark amber with an off-white head. Great lacing. Aroma was very yeasty with hints of raisins and caramel. A gentle malt taste with a nice warm alcohol finish.

The usuall St.B yeasty smell but with a nutty aroma. Dark brown color. Has tastes of wood, spices, yeast, nuts and maybe a little fruit. Not a thick feel like i was expecting.
