I drink this “Pater” in remembrance of Father Dan O’Sullivan at St. Irenaeus, who married me to my wife and baptized our kids, who enjoyed any beer I brought him and with whom I shared my first DFH WWS. Pours deep brown with a big head that needed some time to settle. Nice smell of raisins and plums, with sweetness emanating from the glass. After that buildup, the taste actually runs a little light. Sweetness is NOT that heavy. Instead, like a modest ale, it simply delivers a nice blend of malt and some nearly German-type hop sharpness. Lot of chunky foam and lace sticking around the glass. Fruitiness not as apparent in the taste. This bottle, at least, slides in more like a basic fine ale. And that’s just fine by me.

330 ml / 33 cl, flaske, 6,7 % ABV, købt i Den Belgiske Ølbutik i Vanløse, 23. januar 2015.

Poured medium dark brown with a full finger tan head. Active carbonation. Grassy aroma. Nice lacing. Nutty flavour. A bit of bitterness on the finish. Not bad.

Pours a brown color with a light white foam head. Aroma is raisin, caramel, some nut, and a touch of Belgian yeast. The flavors come out very muted, with the nutty finish the most prominent. Underwhelming.

Bottle, 0.33l. Cloudy muddy brown color with small frothy off-white head and sparkling appearance. Aroma of yeast, dark fruits, wheat, dust and some alcohol. Taste starts with moderate sweet caramel, following is grassy, papery and moderate alcoholic, mouthfeel is spicy, while finish is mild bitter. Light to medium body, slick texture and lively carbonation in palate. Not fascinating, will surely need to re-rate it...

Bottle @ home. Pours a hazed dark brown with an off white head that lasts. Aromas of that typical Belgian yeast whiff with hints of grass and plum. Taste has a light pine with some grass with some sweet notes.

Pours a dark hazy amber with a foamy off white head. Aromas of Belgian yeast, berries, raisin, and some floral notes. Has a medium body with a rather fizzy carbonation. There is a light sweetness on the tongue that evolves into a dry bitterness. Pretty good beer, but not my favorite from St. Bernardus.

33cl in St. Bernardus glass. Pours quite an abundant, slighlty beige, frothy head; very dark amber to chestnut colour, some ruby reflexes. Smells very yeasty and bready, leathery, clove, unmistakably belgian. Tastes caramel, dried fruits, vanilla, sweet spiced; moderate sweetness on this one, and extremly subtle bitterness; some light tart/acidic notes. Lively carbonation, medium + body, creamy and fizzy texture. Super-balanced, extremly clean malty finish, very smooth and drinkable, typical St. Bernardus aftertatste

Has a sour apple like aroma with a mild earthy background. Super fluffy white head on top of a deep ruby red body. Lots of sediment floating around. Has a nice warming feeling going down. Tart and apple spice taste. Dry on the finish. Enjoyable.
