4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
This Abbey Ale proves why Abbey’s are renowned for top quality. On the poor you get a nice seasoned and nutty aroma with a chestnut color. The taste of this fine Ale supersedes the aroma (which is already amazing)! It has a full body with a flavor of roasted nuts and a lingering palate that drives you to sip after sip! Perfect for a nice cold winter day!

Bottle at home. Murky muddy brown, thin quickly fading tan head. Aroma of apricot, nuts, some spice. Flavour similar with a bit of caramel, dark fruit. Quite a good example of the style, enjoyed it.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared with Lyoli in Gabrovo, Bulgaria - sourced from beermerchants. Pours lightly hazy brown with a frothy, off-white head that settles down quickly. The aroma engages with moderate ripening, semi-dark fruits, some dried berries, mellow Belgian yeast, some toffee. Medium sweet flavor with decent caramel-bread malt character, some hints of cocoa and toasted toffee, more rounded fruit notes, some plums and dates. Medium to full bodied with lively, mouth-filling carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish with more ripened fruits, toffee, bread, fruitcake, candied sugar, dates. Nicely balanced, with good complexity, and highly drinkable

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle @ home, bbf 2014-01. Dull copper-brown colored with a good light beige head. Aroma has yeast, lots of it, leaning towards bread yeast. There’s also caramel, fudge, dark bread, ripe bananas, spices, clove, raisins, vanilla, vinous plums & a note of oak.Complex and interesting, although a bit too yeasty. Flavor is sweet of fudge, bread, spices, banana and notes of banana peel. Clove, brown sugar, wood and dark fruits and light notes of chocolate . Aftertaste is dry and nutty, with some papery aging artifacts. Dry medium bitterness. Soft carbonation.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Had this sitting in my frig for a while now and I was waiting for a good reason to open it up. My reason..........Monday. What better cure for the Monday blues than a Trappist ale?
Pours a murky brownish-red with a thick fluffy tan head. Aroma is slightly more subdued that I was expecting. Hints of bitter fruits, molasses, apricot, banana, and a trace of alcohol. Flavor is akin to the aroma. Not in your face, but coats your palate in a pleasant array of flavors. Raisin, caramelized brown sugar, slight hop bitterness, and just the right amount of warmth from the alcohol. Feels very soft on the palate. Overall a very easy to drink, pleasant beer. I prefer the Rochefort 6 but this one still makes a solid appearance.
