Bottle. The pour was a dark murky chestnut brown with a slight reddish hue and an average sized (1-2 finger) light tan creamy head that lasted throughout with excellent sheeting of lacing which basically coated the glass. The aroma was of a toasted biscuit malt and a sweaty Belgian yeast with notes of caramel, toffee, banana and some dark fruit (plums and overripe grapes). The taste had a strong malty presence and a mild sweetness with a hint of banana and caramel early on, and then slowly transformed into a much yeastier taste with a large dose of dark fruit and a mild toffee presence towards the end. The flavor lasted a good amount of time after the swallow with a sweet yeasty flavor and a mild fruity ester that was left to linger on the taste buds. Mouthfeel was somewhere between light and medium in body with a creamy and a tad oily texture and a medium carbonation. Overall an extremely tasty and very easy to drink Dubbel, and is a brew that hides all notion of somewhat moderate ABV...

2015/03/03 - Pours a hazy brown-amber colour with a soapy, khaki head that quickly reduces to a film. Aroma is yeast, mild banana, doughy notes, caramel, raisin, dates, figs and herbal hops. Taste starts doughy yeast and mild banana, shifts to dark fruits (raisins, dates, figs) and caramel and finishes with mildly bitter, herbal hops. A nice "lighter" beer from St. Bernie. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle from a sample pack. Pours darker than the 12, 8 or tripel. Almost no head. Aroma has very slight notes of spice must. Taste is smooth. No hint at all of the ABV. Maybe the best of the St. Bernardus beers.

Dark reddish brown beer, cloudy, with white head. Aroma: Sharp aroma of belgian yeasts, some basement/barnyard, spices, than fruity-wine aromas. Taste: Mainly sour. Flavors same as in aroma: spice herbs, wine. Body: medium, short, sour finish. Really nice Belgian Dubbel. Definitly what I’m expecting in this style.

Pours a nice dark ruby red with a small head. On the nose i get banana, and the beer also has nice yeasty and bready character. Flavor is quite good and complex with flavors of caramel, dusty leather, candi syrup with a quite nice carbonated mouthfeel. Beer has a quite dry finish and is nicely balanced.

As if I could not love a St. Bernardus brew! Even though this brewski kicks it pretty dang hard, she’s still not quite in a lofty "loved it" category. A cloudy, barnyard-mud brown with an incredibly frothy beige head pours from the monk-adorned bottle. Earthy fall leaves, leather, brown sugar, raisins, basement and spicy herbal hops are exuded from my glass. The taste matches nicely, a bright carbonation and dry feel tickle the tongue. There just isn’t as much flavour as I was hoping for. Still delicious though.

Small head, plenty of sediment, almost nontransparent. Taste is pretty odd (maybe it applies to the specific bottle I had) and reminds me homebrew: a little of yeast, of alcohol, a lot of wine. Not bad, not really good either.

I could definitely get the caramel aroma from this. Fitting as the colour of the beer also reminds me of caramel. Great drink!

Brown color wih big head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is spicy and a bit of a tart fruit. Taste is malty, but not too sweet, more spices. Complex and just Bernardus quality!

Bottle. Dark brown colour with a light brown head. Aroma has yeast, coffee, sour elements and malt. Taste is malty with a bit sour and somewhat bitter aftertaste. Earthy flavors with malt, yeast, spices and some banana.

33 cl. bottle @home. Dark brown beer, can’t make much of the aroma. Taste and palate are very good, very well balanced beer.
