garthicus (1216), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 14, 2009 With many thanks to HogTownHarry. Appearance: Dark cherry red with a small off white head. Aroma: Dark fruits, caramel, hazelnut, banana, light alcohol and blackcurrant. Flavour: Very chewy, nice malt and nut flavour to start with hops coming through, burnt sugar, yeast and floral banana in the finish. Very enjoyable. BrianHagmeier (257), Coralville, Iowa, USA Apr 13, 2009 Okay, Im starting to think this mixed sixpack of St. Bernardus is just out dated? There all over carbonated and tart. Birdiebeagle (778), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 12, 2009 Bottle Pours a deep amber with a big creamy tan head. The was lasting and gave good lacing. Has a sweet malty aroma with touches of alcohol. Blended very well. Has a good sweet flavor of malts. A real good aftertaste and slight alcohol burn. Has a watery to oily texture. This was not as good to me as the 12 but was very drinkable and good. MoDog (909), Griffith, Indiana, USA Apr 12, 2009 11.2oz bottle (Best by 17 04 13) and served in a tulip. Hazy, burnt caramel pour with a frothy, thick head of tan foam that slowly settled into a lasting cap. Excellent lacing. The aroma included dark fruits, slightly vinous alcohol, raisins, and caramelized sugar. The flavor had red apple skins, pitted fruits, caramel, a hint of underlying chocolate, and some mellow alcohol. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and had a moderate amount of soft carbonation. Dangerously drinkable and very tasty. Well done! GJF (480), Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA Apr 8, 2009 I love it. Dark brown, big fluffy head. Lots of dried fruit, some chocolate, and a touch of licorice. It’s incredibly creamy with a nice alcohol warmth in the finish. Yummm. jeckenroth (81), Charlestown, Massachusetts, USA Apr 4, 2009
Pours a dark brown with a slight haze. Lively brownish head, thick and creamy.
The nose is sweet with dark fruit (plum maybe a bit of raisin) and malt.
Amazing texture. Velvet. Smooth but not watery. Only a touch of carbonation.
Sweet and rich. Plum, Honey and malt. Complex finish with a touch of alcohol.
Excellent. chmurarz (401), Raciborz now Legnica, Poland Mar 29, 2009 drunk it in Watou bar - not on tap but served in a proper glassware and proper atmosphere
aroma - fantastic smooth malts and mead or honey, rather sweet,
looks - brown, ruby brown, hazy, fantastic head, creamy and lasting to the very end, crums(specs, pieces) of yeast float - adding climate to the whole event taste - no sourness, no bitterness of these bad biternesses, very fine mixture of smooth and sophistication or this was just the ambience of the place, armando629 (954), Budapest, Hungary Mar 25, 2009 Nice brother of the Abt. It has an opalescent reddish-brown body with a small but creamy tan head. Fine roasted malt and dried fruits in the nose with a light honey and spicies. Smoothsmooth mouthfeel, rich body with roasted malt, fine dried fruits like raisins and plum, coffee and cocoabeans. Nice one...The Westvleteren abbey is in the neighborhood:)
