zapprentice (309), East Setauket, New York, USA Mar 22, 2009 Tap at the Publick House. Pours brown with aroma of slight fruits and alcohol. Fruity alcohol flavor with spices. Alcohol sits on tongue as a finish. Very nice EFC1878 (291), Manchester, Greater Manchester, England Mar 21, 2009 330ml bottle from the Wigan Beer Festival. Murky brown colour (I chucked in the sediment) with a thin white head. Spicy alcohol aroma with a complex mixture of malt and fruits thrown in. Peppery spice taste with a wonderfully long, drawn-out bitter finish. Superb. Pinball (2693), Allerød, Denmark Mar 20, 2009 75 cl bottle at home,
pours brown with a giant offwhite head.
great dusty malty yeasty slightly spicy quite dry aroma.
flavor is licorice, spices, malt, well rounded bitterness with alc, faint herbal hops, faint dark fruits, faint raisins someone wrote cola nuts i agree. way cool with all those flavors, very tasty and herbal/spicy yet still well rounded and "mild". beer flavor strength matches 8% perfectly. Beer is almost better than the individual parts bc it just comes together as ... nice... yummy. nate2g (1034), Brisbane, Australia Mar 11, 2009 Bottle. Pours a ruby colour with a huge, rocky creamy beige head. Aroma of plums, spice and alcohol. Sweet, vinous flavour of plum, alcohol, dried fruit, spices and alcohol. Sticky finish with a strong alcohol presence. scrizzz (1250), kirkland, Washington, USA Mar 11, 2009 Thick, murky brown, sticky dense white head, lots of small tight bubbles. Sweet aroma, cola nut and prune, kind of dr. pepper, but more cola nut and less prune. there’s also some slippery sedimentary character on the nose too that softens everything. Is magical too strong? It’s missing a bit from the 12, but not lacking in any way. these beers have swagger and confidence. raisin, dark honey and abbey dubbel yeast. good times. oteyj (713), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Mar 6, 2009 Pours super dark ruby brown with nice head. Aroma is spicy yeast, dark fruit and citrus. Flavor is sweet raisin, plum, fig, and molasses. Very complex and tasty. Palate is thick, creamy and full. Excellent composition. craftycarl21 (510), South Hero, Vermont, USA Mar 6, 2009 pours a cloudy dark brown with a small head. Aroma is very nice- lots of yeast, plum, other dark fruit, and belgian spices. Flavor is great- molasses, caramel, raisin, fig, some nuts, like dates. Palate is very nice, excellent belgian strong. RHeastings (380), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 6, 2009 Enjoyed via 12oz bottle. Pours slightly darker than the 6, but certainly not jet black. Head is fluffy and slightly off-white. The palate and aroma are both unbelievably rich with characteristic maltiness. The flavor is simply outstanding. A must for any lover of fine Belgian examples.
