thejon375 (390), Tampa, Florida, USA Mar 3, 2009 Amazing brew. Good dark color, great nutty aroma, belgian funky flavor. Prefer the Abt 12 but this is a good one too. phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Mar 2, 2009 Nice to have this on tap, super tastey: Poured a dark reddish brown colour, more mahogany i supposed. Medium creamy tan head. Nutty, caramel, maple syrup notes immediately- i noticed it more because i dove in rather than sniffing around. Afterwards, i noticed that plum fruit on the nose- a little over-ripe door county cherries too. Something tart. Nice beer! jumpjet2k (137), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 2, 2009 330ml bottle in the St. Bernardus glass. Plum/brown color with a small tan head. Aroma of figs, apples, cinnamon, spices. Flavor and mouthfeel are two-tiered - a sharp carbonation on top carries the spiciness, but the smooth maltiness rests below. Interesting beer. finol (475), Nacka (Stockholm), Sweden Mar 1, 2009 Bottle at O´learys Copenhagen Central station.
Plum-greyish colour with a smal head.
Fruity and spicy taste.
The carbonation is to sharp. hirigalzkar (550), Stockholm, Sweden Mar 1, 2009 Bottle. Look: Strange grey-brown color. Long lasting head. Smell: Very sweet. Vanilla, fruit, spices. Taste: Fruit and honey with lots of spices added. Choclaty aftertaste. GodOfThunder (855), Orlando, Florida, USA Feb 27, 2009 Pours a thick and cloudy brown/amber color with a thick head. Aroma is figs, sugar and other dark fruits. Flavor is light on the spices and heavy on raisin and sweet roasted malts. CapnCascade (116), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Feb 24, 2009 Pours dark hazy brown with lots of floaties, wispy beige head with minimal lacing. Aroma initially presents a promising hint of caramelized sugar, yeast, and biscuit but then develops damp grains and dish soap. Flavour is mostly carbonation, unfortunately, with a slight hint of dark fruit and spice. I think I may need a new bottle of this stuff based on what everyone else seems to be saying here. Mouthfeel is watery and devoid of character. Disappointing. mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Feb 24, 2009 Pours a murky deep dark amber with flocculent floaties, a thin suggestion of foam and some lacing. There’s that damn damp grain aroma again which seems prevalent in the Watou beers. Sweet and spicy body with a fleeting finish. Cherry/kirsch, brown sugar, oaty grains, musty hops. Creamy slightly over-carbonated body. This watery non-agressive beer hardly tastes like a strong ale at all, but is quite quaffable and I do like that signature St. Bernardus creaminess.
