33 cl bottle from Špunka in Tallinn (€ 2.92). Murky reddish brown. Head light beige, retains nicely, leaving little lacing. The usual caramel, dark fruits, pear, some inspecific spiciness, brown sugar... Fizzy carbonation, above average body... Metallic, grainy and dry on the palate. I’d definitely prefer Westmalle if in the mood of a Dubbel.

Heerlijk fris, donkerbruin, goede schuimkraag. Smaak blijft lang in de mond, moutig. Klassieker.

Bottle. Dark brown, creamy stable head. Malty with dried fruits and bananas in aroma. In taste fruity, malty with candi syrup noticable. Alcohol well hidden. Medium bodied, oily texture, high carbonation. Very good dubbel.

33cl bottle at home. A medium strong Belgian dubbel, high in carbon, brown sugar sweetness, some vanilla too. Full of character, with some earthy flavours and forest fruits. Not as classic and overwhelming as the quadrupple, but something to have on the beer map, for sure.

Bottle. Pours a deep auburn red with a medium, large-bubbled, beige head. Aroma is marzipan yeast, dark fruit, light green apple, dried dark fruit. Taste is marzipan, dark ripe fruits. Semi sweet with a herbal finish. Fairly full, low carbonation.

Pours deep chestnut brown and bubbly with a foamy off-white head that fades quickly to a ring and coating. Aroma is nutty, some mild darkfruit, earth and yeast. Taste largely follows - earthy malted grains and light flavors of plum and cherry. Quite fizzy and more yeast and grain than sweetness. Nicely balanced, but less complexity of flavor than some other Belgian greats. Alcohol is hidden pretty well.

Bottle. Pours a deep red-brown with a high, light ecru, blown-insulation head. (Seriously, this head looks, like you could WALK on it. Nose is wheat bread dough, dark fruit, spice -- wait -- Irish soda bread? Yeah. Like that. Heavy and smoky on the tongue, with boozy and tawny Port notes; it doesn’t, however, manage to overpower, providing an interesting balancing act. Finish is long, warm, and flavorful. Delicious.
