You don’t feel alcholh so much. Not so big mouthfeel but has a nice aroma. Classical abbey ale scent. Caramel.!!. Such a great beer. noncaloric (605), Madison, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 12, 2008 Aroma: Sweet malts, cream, caramel, a bit nutty. Appearance: Dark brown, ruby highlights that are almost purple. Thick beige head, good retention, temporary sheets of lace. Flavor: Dark malts, getting darker as each sip progresses, cream, caramel, toffee, chocolate ... and then an abrupt finish. Intermittent insights of dark fruit, chiefly plum wine. Palate: Dry despite the sweet malts. As each sip is savored, it seems to effervesce its way into a dry nothingness that has vanished from the tongue. tarjei (1745), Bryne, Norway

Deep red brown color with lots of sediment flakes, big but disappering beige head. Came out of the bottle by itself - what a mess!! Aroma is fruity (plum), sweet and spicy. Flavor is also sweet and fruity, with the typical Belgian touch, maybe from the yeast. Hints of warming alcohol. All in all a nice one from Belgium. Homer321 (127), Rockledge, Florida, USA

Appearance: Pours a clear, chestnut brown body with a frothy, foamy, off-white head.
Smell: Sweet, malty nose smelling of dark candi sugar, cocoa-caramel, ripe plums, and a glass of meritage wine.
Taste: Dark maltiness tasting of dark caramel and cocoa powder with a full, resounding sweetness. Plum fruitiness followed by a sip of fruity, yet robust red wine with some warming alcohol qualities to it. Light trace of roastiness throughout, even a bit of nuttiness. Hint of caraway seed-packed rye bread. Malty, sweet, fruity finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Well carbonated, which keeps the maltiness from ever becoming heavy, instead keeping things light and airy.
Drinkability: Paired very well with some Pinback mp3’s. A delightful dubbel, to be sure, I’ll see how it compares to the Abt 12 which is up next. fata2683 (860), Panama City, Florida, USA

I like the mix of dark candi sugar and smooth alcohol burn in the finish. Jblauvs (545), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 17, 2008 Dark Brown pour, slight offwhite head. Sweet malt aroma with dark fruit(figs, raisin, dates) slightly Darker, Maltier than the aroma suggests, but not overly so. Dark sugars and sticky fruits as well. Warming alcohol on the finish. Solid Belgian strong, well made and enjoyable.
