mcr (3), Altadena, California, USA does not count Jun 25, 2008 Bottle pours a hazy dark with a nice head. Aroma is soy sauce and choclate malt. The immediate flavor is soy sauce but quickly transitions to coffee and chocolate. Very creamy mouthfeel. Quite enjoyable. onlyrocknroll (218), Cork, Ireland Jun 25, 2008 Pours dark brown with a mall head. Estery malty aroma with a lovely plum character. Sweet toasted malty, raisins and esters. Full body. Refined and complex. kpresley77 (133), Jackson, Georgia, USA Jun 23, 2008 Bottle pours dark amber with thin head. Aroma is alcohol and prunes. First taste is alcohol spice then sweet fruit. Slight malt finish with linger of spice. wyzzywyz22 (754), Wirral, Merseyside, England Jun 19, 2008 Bottle, Belgian Belly, Manc. I had this for the first time about 5 years ago, and it was the Bernadus quiver of brews which were amongst the initial mob of Belgians that fired my imagination and taste buds, and set me on the path of the enlightened drinker. It was a definite treat therefore to revisit this. This is an incredibly complex brew and i won’t add to the wealth of description already on here, except to say that this is a rich, flavoursome and heavyweight Belgian that oozes quality . abcfan (247), New Jersey, USA Jun 17, 2008 Really enjoyed this brew. Pours a nice amber-brown color with foamy off-white head. Aroma is of dark fruit, bread and candied yeast. Goes down very smooth with a slight acidic fruit finish. Would drink again. Bigmmartin (366), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jun 16, 2008 Bottle. Another wonderful Belgian brew from St. Bernardus. The aroma is sweet with some yeast. It pours dark caramel brown caramel color with a thick foamy off white head. The alcohol is well hidden and the taste contains dark fruits and slight yeast. cking (1012), North Canton, Ohio, USA Jun 16, 2008 Single bottle enjoyed in a medium sized snifter. Slow pour producing a cloudy, mahogany colored body with a billowing khaki head. I was able to pour the rest of the bottle into the glass after a considerable wait. The rocky head sticks around providing a bunch of stringy/streaky lacing. I swirled gently to help release the aroma, and what a lovely aroma it is. A rich fruitiness filled the air, very strong and welcoming. Vinous with a light red wine quality accompanied by scents of plums and licorice. Medium bodied on the palate and velvety smooth. The alcohol is barely noticed and there is a succinct fruity aftertaste. Flavor resembles the aroma, but has a little different complexity to it. Sweet doughy malts similar to fresh baked goods. Raisins, figs, and plums with a small nuance of orange zest. A friendly port wine quality similar with other well crafted Belgians. A hint of spices similar to clove, ginger, and coriander. Fruity and overall a great beer. 12many (231), Ohio, USA Jun 15, 2008 Dark amber pour with a generous head. Aroma is strong of sweet dark fruit a little yeast and a little alcohol. A balanced bitter sweet flavor. Nice.
