Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Jan 6, 2008 The head is extremely nice, silky smooth and lasting. It leaves islands of foam on the surface. The aroma is spicy and hoppy and the mouthfeel is nice and full. The flavour has a nice body, it’s spicy and the alcohol burns a bit. It has notes of nuts, figs, ripe plums and other stone fruits. In the finish an unexpected but nice bitterness turns up together with brief notes of smoke. This beer should not be too warm, and I would like more complexity - but nice it is. mcbackus (725), Merritt Island, Florida, USA Jan 3, 2008 small bottle: pours with a thick creamy off white head with lacing. head last suring the drinking experience. this hovers over a dark caramel brown body. aroma is wonderful full of dark sugars and a great amount of fresh fruit such as sweet cherries, also has a great belgian yeast aromas. flavour is yeasty and dark sugaars at first ans them some darker fruits plums and raisins. finishes drying. andyhite (290), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA Jan 2, 2008 330ml. pours true deep ruby. perfect head. high amount of sediment. deep, complex aromas of candied ripe fruits. i wish they made candles of this aroma. while the taste mirrors the aroma, it adds the as-advertised ’malty palate’ and takes away the overtly candied aspect. there’s also a touch of cinnamon or clove on the palate. i could drink this all day long. if it weren’t for that pesky job... uhre (339), Denmark Jan 2, 2008 It is dark red and pours a big head good lasting. The aroma is of figs, malt and swedness. The flavor is of Belgian candy, dark fruit and malty sweetness. What a great beer. slimchill (775), Austin, Texas, USA Jan 1, 2008 Draught. Dark opaque reddish beer with minimal head. Light cherry aroma. Flavor is cherry, oak, and well-rounded sweetnesses. Sharp and creamy mouthfeel with a smooth finish and a biting aftertaste hinting at the abv. robertjm (399), El Cerrito, California, USA Jan 1, 2008 (New Year’s Eve tasting Flight (2 of 4) Pours a much larger head. Might have been warmer than the 6 which I had 90 minutes ago. While the head does collapse almost as quickly as the 6, it provides a LOT more lace than its lighter cousin. Lots of sediment in this one. Still an orangy color, however, a little towards the brown end of the spectrum. Can smell the brown malts coming out in the aroma. Body is heavier. Flavor of belgian candy sugars coming out. Must more complex body and flavor compared to the 6. More pronounced warming on palate and throat after a minute. The warmer it gets the heavier the body gets. corby112 (679), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 28, 2007 Pours a dark brown color with a huge frothy beige head. Aroma of dark fruit, alcohol and chocolate. Very tasty beer with lots of malty chocolate, raisin, prune, plum, spice and alcohol. TheBeerBaron (218), Florida, USA Dec 25, 2007 Dark brown color, tame little tan head for a belgium. Rich caramel aroma with heavy malt, no real hops but a prune fruit smell. Cherry flavor comes out in the beginning but then it gets complex - an array of fruit and a bit of malt. It all comes together to hide the alcohol content, thus no heat in the throat. Palate is perfect for a belgium, a great mix of heaviness and not too bubbly to take away from the flavor. Overall a great belgium thats different from some of the others.
