teorn88 (60), , Italy Aug 6, 2009 33cl bottle. Hazy brown colour with creamy off-white head, good lacing and mostly lasting. Aroma is hoppy, with flowers and citrons, and a bit malty, some cereals, with hints of yeasty sweetness. Some earth-wood notes too. Flavor is moderate bitter whit some sweetness. The finish, of average duration, is sweet with a bit of acidic. Medium bodied with creamy texture. Fizzy carbonation. Sweet alcoholic sensation in the end. Goos beer. skmikeg (70), Poway, California, USA Aug 4, 2009 Pours a brown leather color with a fluffly light beige head. aroma is of rasins, baked bread, and some fruit. flavor is similar with a rasin, bread, apple, cherry, clove, and some brown sugar. alchool is somewhat noticable. finnish is medium with a nice and clean mouthfeel. overall, a very good Belgian Strong Ale. simoneopazz (46), , Italy Aug 2, 2009 bellissimo il colore ambrato-scuro,con una bellissima schiuma bianca e persistente.
all’olfatto presenta un profumo pieno e avvolgente, mentre al palato risulta per nulla amara ma bensì abbastanza dolce e molto equilibrata.delicatissimo l’odore di frutta!
è una birra da bere! MmmcKay (269), Brentwood, Tennessee, USA Aug 1, 2009 Lighter than I would have thought by looking at it. These Belgians continue to surprise with their balance and elegance. The Prior 8 is no exception. Good malt character. Long and easy. Wonderful mouthfeel and a great finish. yesyouam (587), Fairport, New York, USA Jul 30, 2009 St. Bernardus Prior 8 is a dim, cloudy, leathery brown ale with a big, fluffy, light beige head that leaves tenacious lacing. It has a grainy, bready aroma with notes of raisin and prune. It smells just a touch sweet. It’s medium, maybe medium-light, bodied, smooth and fluffy and quite bubbly with a clean finish. There are dark and dried fruit flavors; notes of apple, plum, cherry and raisin bread. It’s not very sweet-- almost savory, with no noticeable bitterness. It’s warming at the finish and has a clean aftertaste. Very tasty. Pipper (226), Ohio, USA Jul 26, 2009 Updated: Aug 24, 2009On tap at Redbones. Into St. Bernardus trappist glass. Serious alcohol aroma and dark, ripe raisins, so GOOD. Flavor is about the same with some cloves but doesn’t overwhelm the other flavors. Really nice lacing coating the glass all the way down. Best dubbel I’ve had in awhile. Parket (219), Bruges, Belgium Jul 26, 2009 bottle, nice but unstable white head, dark orange/brown colour. Smell: dried plums, raisins, fruity and alcohol. Taste: easy to drink and very well balanced, raisins, dried plums, alcohol, yeasty, a bit bitter, sweet, warm feeling. A very good strong ale! vtafro (452), , New Jersey, USA Jul 16, 2009 Bottle. Very good Belgian. Dark brown pour with decent carbonation. Flavor isn’t over powering, aromas match flavors.
