mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA Jul 7, 2007 Pours a dark brown with hints of red, with a small white head. Smells of dark fruits, berries, and dark malts. Some caramel too. The taste is much of the same. Pretty fruity, with alot of berry flavor to it. Very sweet too, get some rasisns and dark malts in th finish. Leaves a sweet residue on the lips and the palate. Good beer. thenick (742), North Bellmore, New York, USA Jul 7, 2007 Pours a deep brown with another nice, fluffy head with lacing. Aroma is highly spicy and fruity, and I think I noticed a little citrus thrown in. The flavor is heavily malty and smooth, another great beer from St. Bernardus robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Jul 6, 2007 nose is BIG ripe fruit, and malt with a slight yeast aroma. Flavour is big and rich. lots of ripe fruit, and a nice maltiness that really coats your palate. really nice ale. Doggythedog (1541), Split, Croatia Jul 2, 2007 Updated: Jul 3, 2007Bottle at the Hopdevil in Zagreb Poured a big beige thick but fluffy head that dissipated slowly on top of a lovely deep red body. The nose was nice and complex... raisins, dust, peach, malt, honey and alcohol. The taste is quite malt-driven, with a strong and warming presence of alcohol in the backgroundl. Almost too strong for the 8%, but not unpleasant at all. Honey, raisins, a bit chewy background hopiness. The taste starts out silky smooth until it shatters on the reef of alcohol. All in all, a really good beer. zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA Jul 1, 2007 Bottle. Pours hazy caramel, fluffy off white head. Aroma is dried fruit, malt, slight metal and spices. Flavor is dried fruit, wheat, grass, caramel. iep (229), Amsterdam, Netherlands Jun 27, 2007 Updated: Jul 18, 2007Dark chestnut colored hazy body, and a persistent off-white head. Malty, fruity aroma with lots of candy sugar, and some caramel, vanilla, cinnamon - like speculaas cookiedough; that peculiar St. Bernardus yeastiness. Well-rounded malty taste, with notes of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, speculaas cookies, ginger, cinnamon; a spectacular interplay of malt- and yeast-complexity. Long finish, coffee-like (moccha), deeply malty. Some hop-bitterness in the finish, which provides a nicely dry edge. Thick, but not too heavy on the palate, with subdued carbonation. Less intense but overall more rounded & balanced than the Abt12. The excellent price/quality ratio, plus the reasonable ABV% makes this one of the best beers I know. roder60 (1019), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 26, 2007 Pours a deep dark opaque mahagony color with some fizzy offwhite head, kinda looks like coke in a way. Sweet malty aroma with some banana and molases. sweeter aroma than i had expected really. Mouthfeel is rather light on the tongue but still has a nice flavor to it. Dark fruits, warming alcohol burbony undertone, and doughy. Overall, very enjoyable, perfect for a summer night. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Jun 25, 2007 Great looking cloudy rich dark brown color with deep red tones. One cm thick white head. Deep molasses and Belgian malt aromas. Raisin, plum, coriander, mild cloves on the taste. Surprised by the complexity of this one. Very rich smell and taste, but not too heavy.
